How long will my face lift last?

There are many factors that determine the longevity of a face lift, including at what age you have it, your skin quality at the time, and the technique used.

A good face lift should not only reverse the effects of time, but slow the future effects of aging.

On average though, you should expect to see up to 10 years benefit from a face lift.

What about smoking and va**ng?

NO! Smoking is an absolute NO in the recovery phase after surgery (and for at least 4 weeks prior to surgery).

The ni****ne significantly impedes wound healing by constricting blood vessels and compromising blood flow to your surgical sites.

Most smokers will experience wound healing issues and infection if they smoke in the recovery phase. If they smoke in the lead up to surgery the anaesthetic complications can be higher.

What is face lift surgery?

Face lifts reverse the changes that have occurred to our faces through the effects of ageing, sun damage, and gravity.

Ageing causes fat to shrink in critical places that once kept the skin plump and firm, such as around the eyes and cheeks. Ageing also shrinks our skeleton, so the bony foundation of our face is no longer as strong. Sun damage leaves our skin crepey, and gravity pulls the skin and soft tissue of the face downwards. Some parts of the face are stuck more firmly to the skeleton underneath than others, and in these areas, we see dark hollows and adjacent puffiness, such as the jawline (‘jowls’) and the sides of the mouth (“nasolabial folds” and “marionette lines”).

⏳ “What should I expect during brow lift recovery?”

One of the most common questions Dr. Sophie Ricketts receives during a brow lift consultation is about what the recovery looks and feels like.

Here’s what to know:
✔️ Tightness and a feeling of being “overdone” is completely normal
✔️ This phase can last 4 to 6 weeks
✔️ It’s part of the natural settling process

✨ If your brows look perfect just two weeks in, chances are they won’t stay that way — they may drop too low once swelling resolves.

What are Dr Sophie’s Qualifications?

Dr Sophie Ricketts graduated with Honours in Bachelor of Medical Science and Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Tasmania before relocating to Melbourne to begin my surgical training.

After completing four years of Basic Surgical Training at St Vincent’s hospital in Melbourne, Dr Ricketts was then selected by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons to train as a Specialist Plastic Surgeon. This training took her to many of the large metropolitan Melbourne hospitals, including The Royal Melbourne, The Alfred, The Royal Children's, and St Vincent’s hospitals. Working with world leaders in the field of plastic surgery.

This Advanced Specialist Training, completed in 2010, gave her a Fellowship in Plastic Surgery through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. This is the highest qualification in Plastic Surgery.

👁️ “Do I need a brow lift with my eyelid surgery?”

As a specialist plastic surgeon, my practice comprises both reconstructive and cosmetic surgery utilising contemporary techniques. I am passionate about aesthetic and reconstructive facial surgery and undertook further subspecialist training in this field.
