                                            🧠 Common Myths About Pain
Pain is complex and many of the things we’ve been told about it just aren’t true. Let’s clear up a few of the big ones 👇
Myth 1: Pain equals damage
Just because something hurts doesn’t mean you’ve caused harm. Pain is an alarm system, not a damage detector, it can be “turned up” or “down” by many factors.
Myth 2: Rest is always best
Short-term rest can help with acute pain or injury but too much rest can actually make things worse. Gentle, progressive movement helps restore confidence, strength and capacity.
Myth 3: Pain is purely physical
Pain isn’t just about tissues, it’s shaped by stress, sleep, mood, beliefs and past experiences. Your brain blends all of this to decide how much pain to produce.
Myth 4: If it hurts, stop immediately
Some discomfort is okay during rehab or training. The goal isn’t zero pain, it’s safe, progressive loading that builds trust in your body again.
💡The truth:
Pain is your body’s way of protecting you, it doesn’t always mean injury or damage. Understanding that pain is influenced by both the body and the brain helps you move with confidence, manage pain better, and get back to doing what you love.
At Border Osteo & Performance, we help you understand your pain, restore movement, and build long-term resilience so you can move freely and perform at your best.
