On Sunday 31 August, communities worldwide will mark International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) - a time to remember those lost to overdose, recognise those who have survived, and stand with grieving families and friends.

Join us at North Richmond Community Health for an evening of reflection and connection, featuring food, a candlelight vigil, art activities, and a moving art installation.

📅 Sunday 31 August, from 6:00pm
📍 Out the front of our main building at 23 Lennox Street, Richmond (we’ll relocate to the Community Rooms inside if wet/cold)

In the lead-up to IOAD, we’re also running Naloxone training sessions. These are practical workshops where you can learn how to recognise and respond to an opioid overdose.

Today is World Hepatitis Day. It’s a time to learn about hepatitis and take action to stop the spread of this serious illness.

At North Richmond Community Health, we have:
• Tested 2,681 people for hepatitis C at the Medically Supervised Injecting Room
• Helped 403 people start treatment for hepatitis C
• Delivered culturally safe hepatitis education to countless communities through the Multicultural Health & Support Service (a program of the Centre for Culture, Ethnicity & Health)

Every year, over one million people die from hepatitis, but his can be prevented. We have good tests, strong treatments and vaccines that work. But many people don’t know this. Myths, fear and lack of information stop people from getting help.

Let’s break down these barriers. Everyone has the right to good information, healthcare and a life without hepatitis.

This week we marked Men’s Health Week with a special event that began with a riverside stroll along the Yarra.

After the walk, Dr Jordan Barker joined us for an open and informative chat about key men’s health topics, including prostate health and looking after your wellbeing.

There was plenty of opportunity for questions, connection, and conversation - followed by a delicious BBQ to wrap up the day.

Thanks to everyone who came along and took a step toward better health.

Upcoming Yarra Drug & Health Forum: Understanding New Synthetic Drugs

In recent years there’s been a rise in synthetic drug use (also known as novel psychoactive substances). They are often being mixed in with other substances and they can pose serious health risks for people who use them.

A free upcoming event hosted by Yarra Drug and Health Forum will explore current trends in synthetic drugs, harm reduction and support. All are welcome to attend.

Our Story

North Richmond Community Health is proud to provide award winning health services to the community.

North Richmond Community Health began supporting the Richmond community on Wurundjeri land in 1974. Then called the North Richmond Family Care Centre, it was an organisation built to support the diverse needs of the 4,000 strong community members of the Langdon Park Ministry of Housing estate.

A group of progressive doctors approached the estate’s community-led Tenants Union in the early 1970s, and together they came up with the idea of a health centre that didn’t just provide vital medical services, but also fostered and supported the community.

We work with everybody in this community and try to deliver services that work for all people regardless of their background.
