Plaque and tartar, what's the difference? 🤔

🦷Plaque is what eventually turns into tartar. It's the thin film that accumulates on your teeth every day and if left there, will harden and form tartar, which is why it's so important to stop or remove! 🦷

Fortunately there are many different ways to protect your cats' and dogs' teeth against plaque and tartar and some methods can even remove pretty built up tartar, as shown in these photos of our practice manager's dog Apollo.

Apollo has Ascophyllum Nodosum (Plaque Off) added to his food every day and has a Whimzee chew twice a week and these are the results! 😮

🌿Plaque Off works by entering the bloodstream after being ingested and then inhibits plaque's ability to stick to the teeth. It can also soften existing tartar, making dental chews or tooth brushing more effective.

🦔Whimzees are an edible (because not all chews are!), vegetarian (safe for meat allergies), grain-free, raw-hide free, low calorie, high fibre chew that have the VOHC seal of acceptance for both plaque and tartar control, and they come in all sorts of fun shapes and sizes so you can find the right one for your dog. Apollo's favourites are the hedgehogs and the calming antlers.

Apollo's feline siblings love the taste of Plaque Off but it's hard to dose them because they're fed from a communal feeder, so instead they get Oxyfresh added to their drinking water, so much easier for their mum!

💧Oxyfresh dental water additive uses its patented blend of Oxygene and zinc to help clean the teeth, reduce bad breath, and maintain healthy teeth and gums.
It's tasteless, odourless, and free from xylitol, chlorhexidine and alcohol!

🪥While the absolute best care you can give your cat or dog is daily tooth brushing, most of us don't have the time, patience or nerve to do that, and it HAS to be every single day, so it's a relief to know there are some really effective options out there that are more suited to the busy pet owner who might lose a finger if they tried to brush their cat's teeth 😄

🚨 ATTENTION! Cuteness overload incoming! 🚨

This adorable squad came in for their vaccinations before heading off to their forever homes 🐾💉

They handled it like champs… and then promptly passed out in a puppy pile of pure perfection 🥹✨

Wishing them all the love (and naps) in the world as they start their next adventure! 🐶🤍

Meet Maggie! 🤩

This gorgeous girl stayed with us recently for the day and was so brave during her visit!
Maggie underwent a general anaesthetic for thoracic X-rays and a dental, and was such a brave girl.. (with a little help from her fan club of nurses showering her with cuddles, kisses, and encouragement, of course! 🥰🤍)

Before her procedure, Maggie also had a Pre-Anaesthetic blood profile.
This gave us a clear snapshot of how her vital organs—like her kidneys and liver—were functioning, helping us tailor the safest care just for her.

And of course like all of our patients, Maggie received the full 5-star treatment:
✨ Calming music
✨ Adaptil diffuser
✨ Warm, snuggly blankets (on demand!)
✨ And a whole lot of love!

We’re so proud of you, Maggie!

🐰 IMPORTANT RABBIT HEALTH ALERT 🐰

RABBIT OWNERS – PLEASE READ

The Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease Virus (RHDV) is scheduled for release in the Greater Sydney area in the first week of March 2026 as part of pest control programs.

⚠️ This virus is highly contagious and usually fatal for pet rabbits.⚠️

The only effective protection is vaccination with FILAVAC®.

🗓️ WHAT YOU NEED TO DO

✔️ Get your rabbit’s FILAVAC vaccination administered by the end of January 2026
✔️ This timing allows proper immunity before the virus release
✔️ Both indoor and outdoor rabbits are at risk

🩺 WHY IT MATTERS

• RHDV can spread via insects (such as fleas and flies), direct contact between rabbits, predator faeces (dogs, foxes and cats), clothing, food, and the environment
• Many infected rabbits show little to no warning signs
• Once infected, survival rates are very low
• Please note that only rabbits can contract RHDV, native animals and other domestic pets are unaffected by it.

💙 Vaccination is the best way to protect your rabbit. To ensure your rabbit is protected, make sure they are vaccinated by the end of January 2026!

📞 Appointments are limited – please contact us early to avoid missing out.

🐾 This is Teddy, and he LOVES coming to the vet! 💙

Our reception window is technically there to allow our vets and nurses to communicate efficiently during consultations …

…but on Saturday morning, Teddy decided it had a much more important purpose — pats and surprise hellos 🥰

He popped up again (and again!) just to make sure no one missed that handsome face.🐶✨

We’re delighted to share some wonderful news — Dr Tom Winters and his beautiful wife are expecting a baby in November!

We couldn’t be happier for them as they prepare to welcome their little one into the world. It’s such a special time, and we know he will make an incredible dad — just as he is an incredible vet. 🩺🐾

As November approaches, there may be some changes to our rosters to support Dr Winters and his family during this exciting period. We appreciate your understanding if he’s unavailable for consultations around that time.

Please join us in congratulating them on this beautiful new chapter. 🤍
