Pickleball and Heel pain 🏓🏓🏓

🦶Plantar fasciitis is indeed a common issue among people taking up pickleball, due to the fast stops, sudden bursts of acceleration, and repetitive pushing off from the heel and forefoot.🦶

Why it happens❓❓❓

The sport emphasizes lateral movements, quick directional changes, and frequent push-offs. This repetitive loading can irritate the plantar fascia, the thick band of tissue along the bottom of the foot .

Who’s at risk: Beginners who jump into long sessions without proper footwear, adequate warm-up, or a gradual progression in volume are especially susceptible . People with flat feet or high arches may also have altered stress on the fascia during play .

Early signs to watch for: Sharp heel pain after first steps in the morning or after standing up from sitting, and pain that improves with a bit of movement but returns with prolonged standing or running .

Practical care for players new to pickleball

Footwear and inserts: Wear well-fitted shoes with good cushioning and arch support; consider sport-specific court shoes designed for lateral movement. Some players benefit from custom orthotics to balance foot mechanics and reduce fascia strain .
Warm-up and stretches: A thorough warm-up that includes calf stretches, Achilles tendon stretches, and plantar fascia stretches can reduce microtrauma risk. Gentle rolling of the plantar fascia with a spikey ball.
Gradual progression: Increase play time and intensity gradually to allow the plantar fascia to adapt. Include rest days and cross-training to avoid overloading the same tissue .

Injury management if symptoms begin: RICE approach (rest, ice, compression, elevation) in the initial days, NSAIDs as advised by a clinician, and temporary reduction or modification of play. If pain persists beyond a couple of weeks, a podiatry evaluation is advisable to tailor treatment and prevention strategies .

✅Shockwave therapy is a proven, non-invasive treatment for plantar fasciitis that promotes pain relief and tissue healing, offering hope for those with stubborn heel pain.

✅Most patients experience noticeable improvement, often within just a few sessions, with research showing significant long-term benefits in pain reduction and function.

How Shockwave Therapy Works ?

👊Shockwave therapy delivers targeted sound waves to the affected heel, stimulating blood flow and activating your body’s natural healing processes.

👊The treatment is quick, safe, and performed in-clinic, usually requiring minimal to no downtime afterward.

Effectiveness for Plantar Fasciitis

🦶Studies report that 80% of people see a significant decrease in pain levels with shockwave therapy.

🦶Many patients experience relief after the first session, though a course of several treatments may be recommended for lasting results.

🦶Long-term studies confirm that benefits often continue for months to years after treatment, improving quality of life and reducing chronic pain.

Why Choose Shockwave Therapy?

⚡️Non-surgical and medication-free

⚡️Fast relief and minimal side effects

⚡️Proven, research-backed results for plantar fasciitis

If heel pain is slowing you down, ask how shockwave therapy can help get you moving again! Consult with a podiatrist at The Heel Centre to see if this innovative option is right for your needs.

Achilles Tendinopathy, a condition marked by pain and degeneration in the Achilles tendon, is especially common in adults over 40. As we age, the risk for this injury rises due to natural degenerative changes, decreased blood supply to the tendon, and more wear-and-tear from years of activity.
