Sleep hygiene matters

Sleep hygiene means building routines and a sleep-friendly environment to help your mind and body wind down for restful sleep.

Here are some tips to try:

⏰ Go to bed and get up at the same time each day
🛏️ Only go to bed when you feel sleepy
🌙 If you can’t sleep, get up and do something calm until you feel tired
🚫☕ Avoid caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol before bed
💤 Keep your bedroom cool, quiet, and dark
🛌 Use your bed only for sleep (and intimacy)
🕑 Skip naps, or keep them short and early
🛀 Create a relaxing bedtime ritual—gentle stretches, reading, or a warm bath
📵 Avoid screens and clock-watching at night
🍵 Try a light snack if you’re hungry, but not a heavy meal

Small changes add up. Good sleep is a foundation for wellbeing, and you deserve to feel rested. If you need support, reach out—help is always here. 💚

Welcome to Myth Busting Monday. Today, we’re tackling the idea that mental health challenges are just a phase or something you’ll simply “grow out of.”

Mental health conditions can affect anyone, at any age, and aren’t just a part of growing up or a temporary stage. For many people, challenges like anxiety, depression, or trauma can be ongoing and need real support—not just time.

Early intervention means noticing changes in your mood, thoughts, or behaviour and seeking help before things get harder. Reaching out early can make recovery smoother, build resilience, and prevent small issues from becoming bigger struggles.

If you or someone you know is finding things tough, remember: it’s okay to reach out. You deserve support at every stage of life, and it’s never too soon or too late to ask for help. 💚

As the weekend approaches, give yourself permission to slow down and recharge. Self-care isn’t a luxury—it’s a way to refuel, restore, and show yourself kindness. However you spend your time, remember to pause, breathe, and do something that nurtures your wellbeing. You matter, and this weekend is yours. 💚

Welcome to Myth Busting Monday. Today, let’s talk about a common misconception that holds many people back:

Myth: “You have to be diagnosed to deserve support.” 🧠

It’s easy to think, “I should only reach out if things are really bad,” or “If I don’t have a diagnosis, my struggles must not be serious enough.” But the truth is, you don’t need a label to deserve care, understanding, or help.

Support is for everyone—whether you’re feeling a bit off, facing ongoing challenges, or just want to talk things through. Early support can make a big difference, and it’s always okay to ask for help, no matter where you are on your mental health journey.

Systems like the NDIS often require a diagnosis to access funding and services, but that doesn’t mean you need a diagnosis to reach out for support or start making positive changes. Your wellbeing matters, with or without a formal label.

You’re allowed to seek help simply because you want things to feel better. Every story is valid, and everyone deserves support. 💚

Feeling overwhelmed? You’re not alone here.

Sometimes, even small things can feel huge. If your mind is racing or you’re stuck in a tough moment, try this: pause, take a slow breath, and notice one thing around you. It’s okay to ask for help—even if you’re not sure what to say.

If things feel heavy, talking to someone can make a difference. Reach out when you’re ready.

Mental Health Counselling Geelong is here—quietly supporting you, every step.

This week is OCD Awareness Week—a time to shine a light on obsessive-compulsive disorder, break down myths, and remind everyone that support is available.

OCD is more than being neat or organised. It’s a real mental health condition that can cause distressing, repetitive thoughts and urges, and it affects people from all walks of life. You can’t always “see” OCD, and it’s not something someone can just “snap out of.”

If you or someone you care about is living with OCD, know that you’re not alone. Effective treatments and support are available, and reaching out is a sign of strength.

Let’s keep the conversation going, challenge stigma, and create a more understanding community for all. 💚

Welcome to Myth Busting Monday. Today, we’re shining a light on one of the most common and harmful misconceptions about mental health in Australia:

Myth: “If I ask for help, it means I can’t cope and I don’t have resilience.” 🧠

It’s easy to think, “I need to look after everyone else first,” or “I don’t have the time.” Maybe you’ve told yourself, “It’ll get better on its own, I just need to wait it out,” or “Other people have it worse, I should be able to handle this.” These thoughts are common—and they can make it even harder to reach out for support. 🌱

Many people worry that asking for help means they can’t cope, or that they lack resilience. In reality, reaching out is one of the strongest and most self-aware things you can do. Life brings challenges for everyone, and resilience isn’t about facing everything alone; it’s about recognising when you need support, and giving yourself permission to seek it. 💪

Right now, more Australians than ever are talking to their GP about mental health. This doesn’t mean we’re weaker as a community—it means we’re getting better at recognising our needs and taking steps to care for ourselves.

True resilience is about honesty, connection, and self-care. You deserve support, and reaching out is a sign of courage—not a lack of strength. 💚

Today is National Coming Out Day—a day to honour the courage it takes to be true to yourself, in your own time and your own way.

Coming out means something different to everyone. Whether you’re out to a few, to many, or just to yourself, your story is valid. There’s no “right” way or time—what matters most is your safety and wellbeing.

If you’re supporting someone on their journey, let them know you see them and you care. If you’re navigating your own, remember: you’re not alone, and support is always here.

Your identity is valued. Your feelings are real. And you deserve acceptance, respect, and care—today and every day. 💚

Today is World Mental Health Day 🌿—a moment to pause, reflect, and remember that mental health is the foundation of everything we do, feel, and become.

No matter your story, your struggles, or your strengths, your mind is worth caring for. The most important relationship you’ll ever have is the one you hold with yourself. When we look after our mental health, we give ourselves—and those around us—the gift of a fuller, more connected life. ✨

There is no shame in needing support, and no weakness in reaching out. Healing and growth are possible for everyone, at every stage of life. The bravest thing you can do is to honour your own needs, and to offer kindness to yourself as much as you do to others. 💛

Let’s make mental health a priority, not just today, but every day. You matter. Your story matters. And support is always here when you need it. 💚

Welcome to Mental Health Week, where we shine a light on mental health and what it means to different people. Today, let’s look at the real numbers behind mental health in Australia and around the world. 📊

One in five Australians will experience a diagnosed mental health condition each year—around 4.3 million people. The most common are anxiety conditions and mood disorders, but mental health challenges can affect anyone, at any stage of life.

Nearly half of all Australians will experience a mental health condition at some point in their lives. Globally, more than one billion people live with a mental health disorder, according to the World Health Organisation. 🌏

Behind every statistic is a real person deserving of understanding and support. If you’re finding things difficult, you’re not alone. Reaching out is a sign of strength, and support is always available. When we talk about these numbers, we help break down stigma and build a more caring community. 💚
