The Country Witch's Cottage Old World Hedgewitchery and Folk Magic Crafts Welcome to the Country Witch's Cottage. Old world Hedgewitchery and Folk Magic Crafts live here. I heal and I hex.

This is a place for the wild souls, the healers, the poisoners, the spirits and the witches who love to run through the woods and dance in the rain. I am a herbalist, writer and witch. I am a wortcunner and wisewoman. I work with herbs crafting potion and lotions, oils and salves. I craft with wood and stone, paper and wax, I read tarot and oracle to divine the future. I am a hedge witch, walking

the twisted green roads within and without the boundaries of what is seen and what is not; using and growing the shamanistic plants of old, embracing baneful herbs as well as healing herbs. My nature as both witch and herbalist demand it. My products are handcrafted, using organic or wildcrafted herbs. I run two stores, both centre around my passion and love for herbs. I love to create unique artisan items letting spirit guide me toward the creative process. I do not make any claims of expertise or secret knowledge. I simply walk the twisted roads, exploring the path, experiencing the journey of the wild and green, learning as I go, adapting as I change and growing as I practice.

The rain has finally come and the land is finally wet. Everything is coated in water, the ground is muddy and heavy; we can take a moment now to enjoy the weather as winter is certainly here. More rain is forecast for the coming weeks, tanks are filling and we are hopeful this bodes well for the farmers.

I happened to look out my kitchen window today and saw a beacon of yellow; a small button of sunshine in the greyness. I had to mark the occasion of the calendula starting to flower.

New blog post! This was a thought that had been mulling about in my head for awhile and I finally sat down and wrote some thoughts on it. I am also a bit of a genealogy nerd and have done quite a bit on my family tree so it seemed natural that this would be a topic that would come up.

When the Universe gives you pneumonia....garden! For the past month I've not been well and after medical tests, it turns out I have pneumonia, not fun. So this week I decided to do a couple of new garden beds that my love bought for me (he also has a horrendous viral infection but he has Influenza B and RSV) from Bunnings. My three oranges have also started to ripen and tomatoes are sprouting. You may think that's odd but I live in an area that can be either arid or temperate depending on rainfall and its recommended for arid to start tomatoes now (if you read my last post, you know we are in a horrendous drought).

These images are also cross posted - the Insta for my Mum and I'm veg adventures. Please check it out and give it a like!

It took me some time, months more than I wanted it to but here is the first book in the Smash or Trash series. I chose to do Mastering Witchcraft by Paul Huson because it is considered a classic in the genre but also a bit controversial due to its contents. I hope you enjoy, it's been awhile since I've done a book review so hopefully I can get back into the rhythm of it.

As it nears the end of Autumn it's time to reflect on the year so far. It's been a very dry one and while winter fast approaches, the days are still warm with no rain relief in sight. We're in a really horrific drought right now, rain tanks are running dry, farmers are sowing in dust bowls, there is no green to be seen - it has been said the last 12 months of rainfall in SA has been the lowest since it was first recorded in the late 1800s. It's terrible but sets in stark contrast how divorced we've become from the land and how we no longer understand what our environment needs.

At the cottage, water is left everywhere for the parched bees and other wildlife. Plants are grown under the canopies of trees in order to protect them from the drying sun. All we can hope for is that winter brings rain to the parched land and we can start seeing some relief and growth.

Thank you everyone who came by and said hi at the Fair, it was really lovely to meet you all and chat to you even if I wasn't overly chatty due to ill health. The weather was fantastic for us, although a bit windy but we had a great time!
