The Country Witch's Cottage Old World Hedgewitchery and Folk Magic Crafts Welcome to the Country Witch's Cottage. Old world Hedgewitchery and Folk Magic Crafts live here. I heal and I hex.

This is a place for the wild souls, the healers, the poisoners, the spirits and the witches who love to run through the woods and dance in the rain. I am a herbalist, writer and witch. I am a wortcunner and wisewoman. I work with herbs crafting potion and lotions, oils and salves. I craft with wood and stone, paper and wax, I read tarot and oracle to divine the future. I am a hedge witch, walking

the twisted green roads within and without the boundaries of what is seen and what is not; using and growing the shamanistic plants of old, embracing baneful herbs as well as healing herbs. My nature as both witch and herbalist demand it. My products are handcrafted, using organic or wildcrafted herbs. I run two stores, both centre around my passion and love for herbs. I love to create unique artisan items letting spirit guide me toward the creative process. I do not make any claims of expertise or secret knowledge. I simply walk the twisted roads, exploring the path, experiencing the journey of the wild and green, learning as I go, adapting as I change and growing as I practice.

A non-aesthetically pleasing pile up of veg harvested from my garden today (special guest Thistle meadery mead in the background 😂). The chillies are doing really well so I foresee a lot of dehydrating this week.

Autumn has been strange this year; the heat faded out and in turn we had some rain....this made the garden think it was spring because things that shouldn't flower or sprout new growth did I'm looking at you hawthorn and apples. The weather has vacillated between cold nights and weirdly spring feeling days, not the cooling more autumnal weather we want. A bit further south from me the leaves are changing to their brilliant russets, orange and gold and I am left hoping that the true spirit of the season soon turns here.

It has been a long time since I have grown Datura, especially Blackcurrant Swirl. It's a stunning plant, I am also growing Apricot Datura and an Inoxia has randomly sprouted. Old friends coming to say hello once again.

Happy Autumn Equinox! It's a clear sunny day today so it's not feeling particularly autumnal as we hit the 3rd week of the season but at least it's not ridiculously hot. The chillies are finally growing fruit, the eggplants and zucchini are producing, the wild rosehips are bountiful and ripe. This is my favourite season, especially when the weather cools; I love the colours, the crisp air and shorter days.

Autum has started andI for one am hoping cooler days and cooler nights come sooner rather than later. Our summer end and autumn start was wet and it was nice - the ground here needed it. It is no secret that I loathe Summer and have been wishing it done since November and I will be happy if March is mild.

Also, how cute is my Golden Nugget pumpkin?

New YouTube video. It was a little rushed due to the expectation of a forecast weather event that ended up not being what was said. So I do apologise for the haphazardness of this garden vlog.

This is a tour of the garden at the end of summer. I do apologise if it seems a bit rushed, we were supposed to get heavy rains, thunderstorms and whatnot in...

It's taken awhile but I have found another local supplier for beeswax - this lovely wax is also organic. As I get blocks in bigger lots, I melt it down into much handier pucks for melting and making candles. So keep an eye out, once I've made some test candles the pillars will be back in store.

"The discovery includes a near-complete Iron Age battle trumpet or carnyx and parts of another. These animal-headed bronze instruments were used by Celtic tribes across Europe to inspire their warriors in battle and fascinated the Romans who frequently depicted them as war trophies. This newly excavated example is one of only three known from Britain and is one of the most complete found in Europe."

A remarkable collection of Iron Age objects has been discovered in West Norfolk.

Repotting the mandrakes (no they didn't scream 😂). This was the third one and largest of the three, the pot it's sitting on is about 50cm across. Realistically they should be larger but the bins they were in became quite compacted and I hadn't redone them the past couple of years. These mandrakes (mandragora turcomanica) are about seven years old; hopefully repotting them gives them some growth.

The ones I grew a couple of months ago from seed survived damage from the supercell. They're looking less than fantastic but soon I'll put them in slightly bigger pots, possibly sell them on to new homes. I will also at some point get the seeds listed somewhere for sale.
