— Ingrown Toenail Treatments —

Not the most comfortable of feelings, but if left for too long ingrown toenail’s can become a real problem for patients!

— TAILORS BUNIONS —

Similar to a normal Bunion, a Bunionette or Tailors Bunion can be a painful condition of the 5th metatarsals joint. These are usually painful when not managed appropriately 💥

Causes range from biomechanical irregularities in our foot posture + gait cycle, incorrect/narrow footwear (most common), sitting positions, or even injury. Often it is a combination of these. 🏃🏼‍♂️

They can be painful if they are kept locked up in narrow and pointed shoes. These types of footwear causes rubbing or friction on the joint causing redness and agitation. Progression of symptoms due to these causes can result in joint capsule and arthritic changes also 👠

Our Podiatrists aim to assess your biomechanics and footwear, before implementing a number of treatment options to reduce symptoms and in some instances (early stages) reduce severity of deformity. 🦶🏼

Early intervention = reduced progression.

— Do You Play Netball In Runners? —

Due to Netball and Basketball being a change in direction sport, the shoes upper and outsole are made differently compared to running shoes. Whereas running shoes are good for one directional exercise such as walking or running

This is a great picture from demonstrating why it is so important to have the correct footwear for the correct activity! 🏐

The main changes we see are:
👉🏻 Firmer upper material (eg leather) compared to mesh material in runners
👉🏻 A flared outside edge of the shoe
👉🏻 Increased ankle support
👉🏻 Less softer materials eg gel or air, which can be too soft.
👉🏻 Different grip patterns underneath the shoe

These changes help to:
👉🏻 Increase stability when changing direction
👉🏻 Increase control on different surfaces
👉🏻 Reduce the risk of ankle sprains and knee injury
