Lower Abdominal Variations 💪

“We’re retraining the core to switch on before the hip flexors.”

When the deep core isn’t activating efficiently or early enough, the hip flexors take over. These exercises help train the lower abdominals to fire first, giving your legs freedom and your movement control.

These lower-ab focused variations help to:
• Support high extensions
• Improve elevation in jumps
• Build stronger, more controlled balances
• Reduce gripping in the hips and lower back

This exercise strengthens ankles, feet and calves, trains turnout control, and builds the stability you need for pre-pointe and pointe work. Perfect for dancers who sickle or want safer balances on and off pointe.

Stretching isn’t just about muscles.
It’s about the nervous system.

When the nervous system is in a heightened or stressed state, the body prioritises protection. Muscles hold tension, range of motion decreases, and flexibility becomes limited, no matter how much force we apply.

Slow, controlled breathing has been shown to downregulate the nervous system by activating the parasympathetic response and reducing stress markers. Research, including a large meta-analysis, demonstrates that breathwork significantly lowers stress and supports nervous system regulation (Zaccaro et al., 2023).

Why does this matter for flexibility?
Because when the nervous system feels safe, the brain allows muscles to relax. This reduces protective muscle guarding and allows for increased range of motion, more effective stretching, and longer-lasting flexibility gains, both physically and mentally.

This is why breathwork is an intentional part of my classes.
Flexibility improves when we stop forcing the body and start working with its biology.

Every Exercise offers options- whether you need to modify, slow down, or challenge yourself further. If something doesn’t feel right in your body, we adjust. If you’re ready to push, we progress.

I deeply understand body mechanics & alignment & Im just as passionate about mindset as I am about strength. This is a space to build confidence, awareness & resilience- not just muscles.

Meet Brooke- the heart behind Stage Strong 🤍

I’m a born and bred Gold Coast dancer, raised within the local dance community. Like so many dancers my early training focused on ballet syllabus repetition - which is ESSENTIAL, but I would still struggle with Adage and balance. Even after 40 hour weeks of strenuous dance training I still didn’t feel strong enough. There was something missing!

Over the past decade teaching in the fitness industry, I’ve developed a deep understanding of body mechanics, alignment & how strength truely supports technique. I now see clearly what was missing in my own training: targeted, dance specific conditioning that builds strength, stability & body awareness.

Stage Strong was created to support dance schools by helping dancers build strength, stability & resilience so their training actually carries them further.

Im deeply passionate not only about how dancers move, but how they think, feel & connect to their bodies in such a demanding industry.

This work is about creating stronger bodies, resilient minds & dancers who feel supported in their journey - on & off the stage. 🫶
