Welcome to the Mind Your Mind Psychology Gold Coast clinic, where I like to create a space that feels open and welcoming to all the parts that my clients bring along to therapy.

Sometimes, a comfortable couch and a soothing space that feels homely allows the safety needed to learn to tolerate overwhelming emotions.

At other times, the beautiful open space that is offered to my clients, allows the frightened and more hypervigilant parts , or even those that feel ‘trapped’ to gently explore emotions and sensations, whilst releasing excess energy and grounding amongst nature.

For my clients with disabilities and sensory sensitivities, there is always an opportunity to move, with the constant flow of what the body needs to feel safe and co-regulated.

Whilst exploring difficult emotions, memories and sensations can be challenging, therapy does not have to be.

I look forward to welcoming you in your journey of healing ❤️‍🩹 🦋.

Since the pandemic, the demand for online delivery of health services has soared — and for good reason!

With secure Telehealth platforms, access to confidential psychology services from the comfort of your own home, workplace, or even while travelling has become possible— making therapy more convenient and time-efficient.

For people living in remote and regional areas, Telehealth has expanded access to quality providers that were once out of reach. No matter where you are, experienced support is now available.

Studies looking at the effectiveness of online Telehealth vs in-person therapy, have found that online treatment by a qualified professional is equally as effective, with a high rate of satisfaction reported by clients.

At Mind Your Mind Psychology, we have been providing therapeutic intervention through our secure Telehealth platform for a number of years. Our clients often tell us they feel just as connected and supported as they do during face-to-face sessions ✨

Understanding the Inner World of Children Through Psychology

Childhood is a time of curiosity, creativity, and rapid growth — but beneath the surface, emotional and psychological development is also unfolding.

By viewing behaviours through a developmental lens, child psychology helps us understand how kids think, feel, and relate to the world. It's not just about diagnosing problems — it's about unlocking the why behind behaviours and supporting emotional wellbeing.

You might notice:

🔹 Tantrums, aggression, or defiance
🔹 Anxiety, fears, or excessive worry
🔹 Trouble with friendships or emotional regulation
🔹 Low self-esteem or confidence
🔹 Difficulty focusing or learning
🔹 Withdrawal or shutdown

These behaviours often signal deeper challenges that need understanding and support.

💡 How psychology can help:

✨ Uncover the "why" – Behavioural psychologists help identify what your child's behaviour is really communicating.
✨ Build emotional resilience – Kids learn to understand and express emotions in healthy ways.
✨ Strengthen relationships – Therapy supports secure attachment and connection with caregivers.
✨ Support learning – Emotional tools help boost confidence and engagement in school.
✨ Empower parents – Get practical strategies to meet your child's needs and respond calmly.
✨ Early support matters – Addressing challenges now can prevent long-term struggles and strengthen relationships.

At Mind Your Mind Psychology, we help children feel safe, understood, and supported — and we walk alongside parents every step of the way.

🧠💙 If your child is facing big emotions, anxiety, or behavioural challenges, we're here to help.

Let's nurture the mind behind the milestones. Every child deserves to feel seen, heard, and supported.

How to Support Teenagers Through the Emotional Rollercoaster of Adolescence

Adolescence is a time of huge internal change — not just physically, but emotionally and neurologically. The teenage brain is still developing, especially the prefrontal cortex (which handles decision-making and self-control), while emotional centres are in overdrive. This imbalance can make feelings feel louder, moods more intense, and reactions unpredictable.

You might notice:

🔸 Mood swings or emotional outbursts
🔸 Anxiety, low mood, or overwhelm
🔸 Withdrawal from responsibilities or social situations
🔸 Sleep or appetite changes
🔸 Heightened sensitivity or hopelessness

For parents, this can be tough. But this isn't just "a phase" — it's a critical stage of development.

💡 How you can support your teen:

✨ Create a safe space – Encourage open, judgment-free conversations
✨ Normalise their feelings – Help them see emotional ups and downs as part of growing up
✨ Model regulation – Teach coping tools like mindfulness, breathing, or journaling
✨ Keep routines consistent – Structure provides stability amid chaos
✨ Know the signs – If issues persist or affect daily life, professional help can make a difference
✨ Support yourself too – Parenting teens is challenging. You deserve support too.

At Mind Your Mind Psychology, we work with teens and their parents to navigate these years with compassion, tools, and tailored strategies.

How to Support People with a Disability to Cope with Anxiety After Cyclone Alfred?

This week, many in Queensland faced the stress and anxiety of preparing for Cyclone Alfred. For people with cognitive or intellectual disabilities, the impact of a natural disaster like this can extend beyond immediate stress—often with delayed reactions to anxiety and trauma.

It's important to recognise that the loss of familiar routines, changes in daily life, confusion, and the lack of coping strategies can intensify the effects. Here are some signs to watch for in the individuals you support: changes in appetite and sleep, confusion, increased compulsive behaviours, repetitive questions, changes in mood, regression in skills, an increased need for repetition, closeness and reassurance, and a noticeable shift in activity levels.

What you can do to help:

💡Keep routines steady: Re-establish familiar activities as soon as possible.
💡Acknowledge and normalise feelings: let them know it’s okay to feel unsettled.
💡Reassure them that the worst is over and that you made it through together.
💡Provide emotional reassurance: help them feel safe and supported by acknowledging their feelings.
💡Help them access support: if necessary, help the person with a disability reach out for professional support.

Resources are available, and support can make all the difference.

For caregivers and professionals: If you notice these symptoms in yourself, it might be a sign that you too need support. Taking care of yourself allows you to take better care of others.

You are not alone. Support is available. Please reach out if you or someone you care for might need it.

✨ What did you let go of to make space for a healthier, stronger version of you?
✨ Are you ready to embrace your growth and elevate to new heights?

I’m so grateful to be part of your journey, and I can’t wait to continue supporting your growth this year. 🙏
