At Macintyre Health, we are inspired by those who choose to live in Rural Queensland - the resilience, tenacity and sense of community that is inherent here. We are also inspired by the technology and innovation that has revolutionised Diabetes Management and how easily people are now able to live their day-to-day lives. Today we live at a moment where the majority of people have access to the internet or mobile phones - the raw tools necessary to engage in possibilities such as Telehealth, Insulin Pump Therapy and Continuous/Flash Glucose Monitoring (among others). Macintyre Health also recognises that personal relationships are fundamental to successful Chronic Disease Management and Integration of Care. Often, we find, that someone will care more about their own management when they become aware, and believe, that we deeply do as well. At Macintyre Health, we provide education tailored to each person's needs - both clinical and personal. There is no stock-standard way to manage every person with Diabetes, and a tailored approach is key to success. When you become a patient of Macintyre Health, you will know that you have a partner, an ally, someone who will respect your wishes without judgement. Even if our mission sounds big, it starts small - and it starts in Goondiwindi.

For too many Australians living with diabetes, life-saving technology is simply unaffordable.

Ahead of the National Diabetes Summit, Australia’s diabetes sector has united to make a clear call to the government: expand subsidies for Automated Insulin Delivery systems and continuous glucose monitors to ensure equitable access for those at highest risk.

These submissions, supported by leading organisations including Diabetes Australia, Breakthrough T1D, Diabetes Victoria, Diabetes WA, the Australian Diabetes Society, and others, highlight that these technologies are not a “nice-to-have” - they are essential. They help children feel safe at school, women plan healthy pregnancies, and older Australians maintain independence while preventing costly complications like heart attack, stroke, and kidney disease.

Investing in these technologies is an investment in health, equity, and long-term savings for the health system.

Together, the sector is urging action so cost never determines whether someone can access life-changing care.

March marks Autoimmune Disease Awareness Month.

Did you know that type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition? In people with type 1 diabetes, the immune system mistakenly attacks the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, meaning the body can no longer produce the insulin needed to regulate blood glucose levels.

Autoimmune diseases affect millions of people worldwide. This month is an opportunity to raise awareness, increase understanding, and recognise the experiences of those living with autoimmune conditions every day.

At Macintyre Health, we are committed to staying informed about the latest research and developments in diabetes care so we can continue supporting people living with diabetes with the best possible education and care.

Diabetes in Australia is evolving.

Today, around 1 in 15 Australian adults are living with diabetes, and the number continues to grow. But the story goes beyond statistics. Factors like where someone lives, access to healthcare, and access to diabetes technology can all shape a person’s experience of managing the condition.

At the same time, research priorities are shifting - with greater focus on prevention, delaying disease progression, protecting organs, and translating research into everyday care more quickly.

Importantly, people living with diabetes are increasingly involved in shaping research and policy decisions that affect them.

Swipe through to learn more about what diabetes in Australia looks like in 2026, and why staying informed about research, technology and policy matters for the future of care.

Myth or Fact: You have to be overweight to develop diabetes 🤔

Weight is often treated as the headline, but it’s rarely the full story. When we oversimplify health, we miss the real drivers of risk and delay better care. Understanding diabetes starts with curiosity, not judgement. Got a myth you want us to tackle next? Comment below!

🍬There are so many long-held beliefs about diabetes. Some helpful, some… not so much. Enter: Myth Busting Mondays!

We're taking common myths and breaking them down using evidence-based guidance relevant for Australians living with diabetes.

We’re starting with a big one: “People with diabetes can’t eat sugar.”
