☀️🌼 Welcome to Summer! 🌼☀️

Summer has officially arrived, bringing warmer days, outdoor fun, and plenty of sunshine! As we embrace the new season, it’s also a great time to check in on your health and wellbeing.

Here are a few simple reminders to help you stay safe and healthy this summer:

🌞 Protect your skin - Slip, slop, slap, seek, and slide — sunscreen, hats, shade, and protective clothing are your best defence against UV damage.
💧 Stay hydrated - Drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially when spending time outdoors or being active.
🚶‍♂️ Keep moving - Early mornings and evenings are perfect for walks and exercise while avoiding the hottest part of the day.
😴 Prioritise rest - Heat can make you feel more tired — listen to your body and rest when needed.
🦟 Watch out for bites and stings - Use insect repellent and keep an eye out for mosquito-prone areas.

If you have health questions or need to book a summer check-up, our team is here to help.

Wishing our community a safe, healthy, and sun-filled summer! ☀️🌴

🎄✨ Staying Healthy This Festive Season 🎅

The festive season is a wonderful time for family, food, and celebration — but it can also be a busy period where health routines slip. Here are some simple ways to look after yourself while still enjoying the yourself:

🍎 Keep balance in mind - It’s perfectly okay to indulge, but try to include fresh fruit, vegetables, and water throughout your day.
🚶‍♀️ Stay active - A short walk, a swim, or some time outdoors can help reduce stress and keep your energy levels up.
💧 Hydrate - Warmer weather and busy days can lead to dehydration. Keep a water bottle close by — especially if enjoying festive drinks.
😴 Prioritise rest - Late nights add up. Try to maintain a regular sleep routine where you can.
🎁 Look after your mental health - The holidays aren’t easy for everyone. Reach out to friends, family, or your GP if you’re feeling overwhelmed.

🩺 Plan ahead for medications and appointments
With altered clinic hours over Christmas, make sure you have enough medication and have booked any needed check-ups.

Most importantly, enjoy the season, take things at your own pace, and check in with your wellbeing along the way.

Wishing our community a healthy, safe, and joyful festive season. 🎅✨

💙 Lung Cancer Awareness Month

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month — a time to raise awareness, encourage early detection, and support those in our community affected by lung cancer.

Lung cancer can affect anyone, even people who have never smoked. Early signs are often subtle, which is why paying attention to symptoms and prioritising screening is so important.

🩺 Symptoms to look out for:
👉A persistent cough that won’t go away
👉Shortness of breath
👉Chest pain
👉Coughing up blood
👉Unexplained weight loss or fatigue

If you notice any of these symptoms, please don’t delay speaking with your GP — early diagnosis can save lives.

🌟 The National Lung Cancer Screening Program is here 🌟

Starting July 2025, eligible Australians aged 50–70 with a history of smoking can access free lung cancer screening through Medicare.
Screening uses a low-dose CT scan to detect lung cancer early — often before symptoms appear — when treatment is most effective.

✔️ If you’ve smoked for at least 30 pack-years (e.g., 1 pack/day for 30 years or 2 packs/day for 15 years) and currently smoke or quit within the last 10 years, you may be eligible.
✔️ Early detection saves lives — research shows screening can find up to 70% of lung cancers early.

👉 Talk to your GP today about whether you qualify and how to get referred for your free scan.

Let’s work together to spread awareness, encourage early detection, and support better lung health across our community. 💙

👨‍🦱 Happy International Men’s Day!

Today we celebrate the men in our community — our dads, brothers, sons, partners, friends, and colleagues.

International Men’s Day is a reminder to pause and acknowledge the contribution men make to our families, workplaces, and communities, while also highlighting the importance of men’s health and wellbeing.

🩺 A few important reminders for our male patients:

➡Book regular check-ups — early detection saves lives.
➡Look after your mental health — talking to someone is a sign of strength.
➡Stay active and eat well — small daily habits make a big difference.
➡Don’t ignore symptoms — your health matters.

Let’s use today to encourage the men in our lives to take care of their physical and emotional wellbeing, and to reach out for support when they need it.

Prostate health is an important part of men’s wellbeing, especially as they age. The prostate is a small gland located just below the bladder, and it plays a vital role in the male reproductive system. However, with age, the prostate can develop a range of conditions — some common and easily man...

📣 Important Update for Our Patients
We’ve received a few questions about the Government’s new Bulk Billing Incentive and wanted to take a moment to explain how it affects our clinic.
While this initiative offers additional support for some bulk-billed services, the increase does not cover the full cost of providing high-quality medical care. Running a modern medical practice involves rising costs — including qualified staff, medical equipment, compliance requirements, and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for patients.
To ensure we can continue offering longer consultations, continuity of care, and access to experienced doctors, Alma Street Medical will remain a mixed billing practice. This means that while some appointments may still be bulk billed (for example, specific concession or care plan visits), most consultations will continue to attract a private fee with a Medicare rebate available.
We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we strive to maintain the standard of care our community deserves. 💙
If you have any questions about fees or rebates, our reception team is always happy to assist or you can discuss the fees with your doctor at your time of consultation.
