Ok… can I get a bit ranty?! 😅 And sorry to those named Karen, but I’m about to get my Karen on… So here goes.
I was watching commercial TV and The Floor was on — for those unaware, it’s kind of a quiz show where they show images on the screen and two contestants yell out the name. I don’t mind it, it’s a bit of a guessing game and makes your brain think.
Anyway… I digress (something I’m well known to do 😅).
They had a contestant that was a “crystal expert” — so obviously I got a bit excited thinking, oh here we go, let’s test our knowledge.
It started out easy enough. There were more gems than crystals, but whatever. I will say I didn’t agree with a few of the answers they showed…
BUT this one really has me PI**ED OFF.
The pic shown here is a screenshot from the show — the actual image they showed the contestants on screen.
And they called it “moonstone.”
It was NOT moonstone.
It was so blatantly obvious that it was Opalite — the man-made stuff.
Seriously… it was that obvious.
And this is the kind of bu****it that happens when things aren’t fact checked properly. It just perpetuates the fake crystal industry.
As many of you know, with myself and my business, I HATE fake crystals being passed off as real. Yes, we have a handful of man-made pieces like Goldstone and Terahertz in store — but they are clearly marked as such and I go out of my way every single time to inform customers.
Because this is exactly what happens otherwise.
A lot of crystal shops don’t know their left from their right and they sell things not knowing their true identity. Then that gets passed onto the customer, who believes what they’ve been told is fact.
And it just keeps going.
For those who don’t know:
Opalite is NOT a natural crystal.
Opalite is a popular, man-made synthetic glass/resin, often mistaken for natural opal or moonstone. It has that milky, iridescent appearance and can show blue, yellow or pink tones depending on the light. (Reddit - see what I did there..... research!!)
This isn’t hard information to find.
So honestly… Channel 9 — do better.
At least fact check before airing things on national TV.
And with that… rant over 😅 I might go write an email to Channel 9!!! 🤣
