🌺 11th of the 11th — Lest We Forget 🌺

At the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, we pause to remember all who have served and sacrificed for our freedom.

Today, we honour the courage, resilience, and compassion that continue to shape our nation — values that also guide the care we provide in our community every day.

May we always remember the strength in service, the power of unity, and the importance of looking after one another.

Why “Figtree”? There’s a story behind the name…

At Figtree Family Practice, we’re proud to take our name from the magnificent fig trees that stand just behind our new practice in Park Avenue. But for us, it’s more than just a beautiful tree — it’s a symbol of who we are and what we stand for.

Like the fig tree, we have deep roots in this region. Figtree is part of the Yeppoon Family Practice group, a trusted name in healthcare that has been caring for the Central Queensland community for over 50 years.

And just like the fig tree, we are resilient, adaptable, and always growing — evolving to meet the needs of our patients and our community, while staying grounded in our values of care, connection, and quality.

We can’t wait to welcome you to our new practice — a place where you’ll feel supported, seen, and truly cared for.

Figtree Family Practice is now ready for MyMedicare! 🌿

After a few technical hiccups, we’re pleased to share that Figtree Family Practice is now able to register patients for MyMedicare.

From 1 November, several important Medicare changes will take effect — and registering with MyMedicare will help make sure you continue to have access to the care and benefits you deserve.

Why register?
MyMedicare helps strengthen your relationship with your regular GP and practice. By registering:
✅ Your care is better coordinated between your doctor, nurses and specialists
✅ You’ll have access to longer Medicare-funded telehealth appointments with your registered practice
✅ Your doctor can access new funding to provide more tailored care for chronic and complex conditions
✅ It supports continuity of care — helping you get the right care, at the right time, from the team who knows you best

How to register:
You can register via your MyGov account (linked to Medicare) and select Figtree Family Practice as your regular clinic.
Or if you’d prefer, our friendly reception team can help you register in-practice.

If you have any questions about MyMedicare or whether you should register, just ask our team at your next visit — we’re here to help.

🏥 Did you know that GPs are often the first to detect and support people living with dementia?

At our Practice, we understand that memory changes and cognitive health can be sensitive topics. That’s why many GPs are taking extra steps to become dementia-friendly:
🌿 Offering longer appointments so there’s time to talk things through
🧠 Providing cognitive assessments to identify concerns early
🤝 Offering ongoing follow-up care and support for patients and families

💛 Dementia doesn’t just affect one person — it touches families, friends, and the whole community. Taking the first step to talk about it can feel daunting, but you don’t have to do it alone.

👉 If you’ve noticed changes in memory, mood, or thinking, we’re here to help — step gently into support with someone you know.

🏡 Communities that work together to understand and support each other make life better for people with dementia. This Dementia Action Week, small acts—like slowing down when someone speaks or keeping a familiar routine—can make a big difference.

🧠 Dementia Action Week is happening 15–21 September 2025, led by Dementia Australia.

This year’s theme, “Nobody Can Do It Alone,” reminds us how much strength and connection can support people living with dementia.

Why it matters: Dementia affects nearly half a million Australians and their loved ones. It’s not a normal part of ageing, and awareness helps eliminate stigma.

🌼 Spring is in the air… and so is pollen!
For people with asthma, spring can be a tricky season. Higher pollen counts and windy days can trigger flare-ups and make breathing harder.

👃 Common spring triggers include:
🌸 Pollen
🍃 Dust and mould
💨 Sudden changes in weather

✅ Tips to stay on top of asthma this spring:
• Keep your preventer inhaler handy and use it as prescribed
• Check your asthma action plan with your GP
• Monitor pollen forecasts and try to stay indoors on high pollen days
• Don’t ignore symptoms — wheezing, tight chest, or night coughing are signs to check in

💙 With the right plan, you can still enjoy the season.
