Christine's journey with us at Minchinbury Community Hospital is a powerful example of the transformative power of our rehab programs. Already a paraplegic, Christine came to us after a fall, and her story beautifully illustrates the importance of seeking professional guidance during life's transitions, whether from surgery or a major accident.

We believe that getting back on your feet takes a village, and our multidisciplinary team was there for Christine every step of the way. With the dedicated effort of our rehab consultants, nurses, physiotherapists, and other allied health professionals, she regained strength and independence. The result? Christine can now stand with the support of a Sara Stedy which is a a significant milestone!

Our 48-bed, boutique-like environment fosters a unique and supportive experience, where both patients and students benefit from a high level of personalised attention. This close-knit team and setting allows us to tailor each aspect of care, ensuring a more focused and effective recovery for patients like Christine. For students, it means invaluable hands-on experience and direct mentorship from our expert team.

While Christine's physical progress is incredible, her journey highlights our holistic approach to well-being. Her story is a beautiful testament to the Minchinbury Community Hospital rehab process and the dedication of our team behind it. It’s a powerful reminder that with the right support, recovery and a return to independence are possible.

This National Stroke Week, from August 4-10, we have a powerful opportunity to save lives within our community.

A stroke is always a medical emergency, but it doesn't have to be a death sentence. The speed at which a stroke is recognised and treated is the single most important factor in a person's outcome. The faster the action, the better the chance of recovery. This is why knowing the F.A.S.T. signs is not just helpful… it's a critical, life-saving skill.

F.A.S.T. = The Life-Saving Signs

Recognising a stroke is simpler than you think. The F.A.S.T. acronym is an easy way to remember the key signs. Share this with your colleagues, your patients, and your loved ones—your mum, dad, partner, and friends.

* Face: Check their face. Has their mouth drooped?
* Arms: Can they lift both arms?
* Speech: Is their speech slurred? Do they understand you?
* Time: Time is critical. If you see any of these signs, call 000 (triple zero) straight away.

Never hesitate to call for help. Immediate action is the first step toward recovery, and it's a step that anyone can take.

Minchinbury Community Hospital Is Committed to Recovery.

While acting fast in the moment is crucial, the journey doesn't end there. Minchinbury Community Hospital, part of the Macquarie Health Group is dedicated to supporting patients every step of the way, from emergency care to long-term recovery.

Our Neurological Rehabilitation Program is an evidence-based exercise and education program specifically designed to empower patients to manage their condition and regain independence.

This program provides a vital pathway to recovery, helping individuals rebuild their lives with confidence and expert support. It's an essential part of our commitment to not only treating but also empowering our community.

Find more information about our program here: https://www.mhsminchinbury.com.au/neurological/

This National Stroke Week, let's use our collective knowledge to make a difference.

Diabetes is a progressive condition that, over time, can contribute to reduced mobility, muscular de-conditioning, delayed wound healing, and a decline in functional independence.

Our General Reconditioning Programs, available across Macquarie Health Corporation’s network of nine accredited hospitals, are designed to support individuals managing chronic conditions such as diabetes.

Through targeted rehabilitation, these programs aim to improve physical capacity, restore energy, and reduce secondary health risks associated with functional decline.

Our multidisciplinary allied health teams—including physiotherapists, dieticians, and specialist nurses—collaborate to deliver coordinated, patient-centred care with measurable clinical outcomes.

This Diabetes Awareness Week, we encourage healthcare professionals, patients, and families to explore the role of reconditioning in chronic disease management.
