My teenager has a lisp but won’t go to speech therapy. Your teenager has a lisp. You’re worried. She couldn’t care less.
This is one of the most common conversations we have with parents of teens.
And here’s the honest truth: speech therapy for a lisp requires the person in the chair to actually want to be there. Motivation isn’t just helpful, it’s essential. Without it, progress is minimal and the experience can damage a young person’s relationship with their own voice.
If your teenager doesn’t see their lisp as a problem right now, that’s worth respecting. It may not be the right time and pushing can sometimes make them less likely to seek help later when it matters to them.
At Kids Spot, we won’t take a booking we don’t believe in. If the timing isn’t right, we’ll tell you and we’ll help you understand what to watch for if things change.
