There’s something strangely exciting about a “fresh start.”

The meal prep.
The spreadsheet.
The hydration plan.
The feeling of being completely in control.

And then
 the crash.

The exhaustion.
The negotiation.
The quiet self-blame.

That cycle isn’t a lack of discipline.
It’s adrenaline.

And adrenaline always fades.

On Wednesday we talked about emotional eating.

Today I want to talk about the negotiation.

The constant:
“Just one won’t hurt
”

Followed by
“Don’t ruin it now
”

That exhausting back-and-forth in your head.

It was never a willpower issue.

It’s two parts of your nervous system trying to keep you safe in different ways.

One part wants comfort.
One part wants control.

And when the body doesn’t feel safe, food becomes the battleground.

But when the body does feel safe


The negotiation quietens.
You don’t feel at war with yourself anymore.

There was never anything wrong with you.

It’s often your nervous system reaching for regulation.

Food can soothe.
It can numb.
It can distract.
It can create a moment of relief.

That doesn’t make you broken.

It means your system has learned a strategy.

The real question isn’t “How do I stop?”
It’s “What is my body trying to protect me from?”

When safety increases, the strategy softens.

It’s the protective layers your body has built in response to stress, responsibility, past hurt and survival patterns.

When emotions are stored rather than processed, the nervous system adapts.

Weight can become protection.
Food can become regulation.
Self-sabotage can become safety.

The issue isn’t discipline.
It’s safety.

When the body feels safe enough, it no longer needs protection.
