“In 2012 I decided to freshen things up — changed the logo, sold the ute, and bought a van so I could carry more gear and train bigger groups.
Not long after, I got access to my old high school hall and started running group training sessions out of it. That was massive for the outdoor bootcamp side of things because it gave us somewhere to train when the weather turned bad.
Fast forward to 2015 — I’d just got back from my honeymoon in Hawaii. I’d spent everything I had on an engagement ring, the wedding and the trip… but decided it was time to finally open a Repetitions studio.
I sent out an email offering 15 lifetime memberships for just under $2k. In a week I’d raised about $30k, found a warehouse in Riverstone to rent and started buying equipment.
Over the next few months I spent around $90k decking it out — money I didn’t really have. I leased about $30k worth of Hammer Strength gear on a two-year plan and paid the rest as I went.
Between running sessions and PT, I’d head back to the warehouse and keep working on the fit-out. About six weeks later, the first Repetitions studio was ready to go.”
