✅80/20 rule. Most runners run at 80% for 80% of their runs. To improve your engine and reduce chance of injury track your volume and tempo with you tech and physio.
✅MORE THAN DISTANCE: Often niggles come on not with change in distance but change in surface, change in tempo, change in hills.
✅TOO MANY EXERCISES: Too many exercises means we don’t do them. We see so many runners with 6-8 band exercises when it would be infinitely more beneficial to do 2-3 really targeted exercises.
✅RUN PHYSIO: you need to partner with a physio who
is immersed in the research, can do a decent run assessment and understands the demands.

You’re probably not going to like it … but it’s not your shoes, not your running technique and not because you don’t stretch enough…

Ok, they do come into it and we look at those for every runner. But honestly, these are small rocks in the jar that often don’t make a massive difference.

😴THE IMPORTANCE OF SLEEP 😴

When it comes to recovery (from exercise, injuries or surgery) sleep plays a pivotal role.
Try to get at least 8-9 hours of sleep every night, especially when your training volume is high or you’re nursing an injury.

If you can’t get enough sleep, make sure to adjust your training volume/activity level accordingly and your risk of injury will be increased.
When you fuel your body with the right nutrients as well you’ve covered 90% of what’s important. Focus on these two first and then do the additional 10%.

DID YOU KNOW?

Researchers looking at Achilles tendon problems identified that calf strength in the injured AND uninjured limb were substantially lower than a healthy ‘control’ population. It shows that for those with Achilles tendon problems, strength in the ‘good’ leg isn’t as good as we might think. Strength targets should be based on population averages with consideration given to the individual’s circumstances, i.e. goals and injury history.
