It can be hard to adequately use the massage ball for the upper traps against the wall or on the floor. Try this technique instead!
Bonus technique is to keep the ball on a tight spot and turn the head in different directions. Give it a go and let us know how it went!

Good recovery isn’t complicated, and it may seem boring… but it’s the basics that work best. More and more people are investing in new recovery tools/technologies and still being just as injured… because they haven’t addressed the basics.

This issue isn’t that recovery doesn’t work, it’s that you’re skipping the foundations.

Sleep, nutrition and hydration are the Big 3. They are the recovery foundations. Ice baths, saunas, supplements, light therapy… they’re the icing on the cake. If you don’t have the cake, the icing doesn’t matter.

If you’re sleeping 5-6 hours a night, under-eating and dehydrated. No recovery tool is going to make a meaningful difference.

Be honest, are your basics dialled in?

You ever run behind someone and see there legs kick out wide in a circular fashion.
Nothing inherently wrong with this. We all run differently. However you may be leaving some running efficiency on the table.
Often this is driven by your arms and your arm swing crossing the midline.

Major things noticed:
- significant crossover gait (left worse than right)
- right foot kicks higher than left

Why is this likely happening?
- lack of strength in hip stabilising muscles
- lack of calf push off on left leg

We can create a great specific strengthening program according to this assessment, but would be even more beneficial to do some strength testing to confirm, then personalise exercises.

Here’s a framework I often give to patients to guide the in understanding if a pan is just a ni**le or is it something more serious!

1) what’s the pain like during exercise and how intense is it?
2) How long does it take to settle?
3) What’s the trend of pain over time?

Answering these three can give you a much better insight if something is safe to push through.
