VALE: Liam McCarthy

We are saddened to advise that Liam McCarthy passed away on August 3nd 2020 following a protracted illness, aged 67.

Liam commenced with Ambulance Victoria in Melbourne in 1973 and qualified as a MICA Paramedic in 1977, working at MICA 1 in Melbourne. Liam was later appointed to the position of Personnel Officer in 1983 where he developed and implemented Personnel Records to computerised versions.

During this time he commenced further study to become a lawyer and resigned in 1984 to pursue this career. We are grateful to Liam for his significant contribution to the ambulance service and the community, for which he received many commendations.

Of note Liam co-authored a paper at La Trobe University in 1986 titled "From First Aid to Paramedical: Ambulance Officers in the Health Division of Labour" providing an important insight into the division of labour in health care and the history of ambulance services at the time.

We extend our sincere condolences to Liam's son and daughter - Caeylen and Niamh and their families.

Liam's family and friends wish to extend their thanks for the support provided by AV during his illness.

A private funeral will be held.
