Just like those in a wheelchair, the 96% of people with an "invisible" disability in Australia can struggle to find work. That's one of the reasons we created our Conservation Cadetship program - to support islanders with a disability keen to work in the great outdoors to learn on the job whilst also getting accredited training.
We're now hiring for our fifth round of cadets- 6 people that will work part-time (24hrs/wk) for 20 weeks on projects across the SMBI, paid under the Horticulture Award. Towards the end of the program we support cadets to go onto further employment across a range of fields.
Past cadets have included islanders with physical disabilities, chronic health conditions, sensory impairments, autism spectrum disorders, learning difficulties, and a range of mental health conditions. If you are still waiting for a diagnoses, you are also eligible for the program. For more information and the link to apply, go to www.runningwild.org.au/cadets or phone 0473 435 086
