Thursday Memory Cafe 🫶🏻
Every second Thursday, I make my way over to lovely Chiltern to teach Chair Yoga to an incredible group of yogis.
Chiltern, Rutherglen & surrounds locals who have Dementia & their wonderful carers are the attendees at this session.
We move, breathe, meditate & laugh (mostly at my terrible jokes) as we move through a Chair Yoga session.
On the drive back to Rutherglen each time, I always feel humbled by their dedication, willingness & enthusiasm to learn, be challenged & try something new. Some of these attendees are well into the more mature decades of their lives - 80’s & 90’s
How lucky am I to be in the company of these wise souls? Who have seen & experienced so much more than I have & who have so much to offer to our community.
So much so that I can’t help but think that it is indeed, I ,that is so privileged to learn each session from these knowledgeable, intelligent & cheeky characters.

Mama to be, Nina, here just radiating pregnancy in full bloom.
38 weeks & still practicing our Pre Natal Yoga ❤️
Our pregnancy classes take you from week 13 (or earlier if you have a regular yoga practice in place) right through to the birth of your Bebe!
In fact, I encourage you to continue yoga as long as it still feels good in your pregnancy.
In our pre natal program, we move physically with a different sequence each week, supporting the physical evolution of your body as your baby grows.

We place a huge amount of importance on the emotional & mental changes through pregnancy too through meditation & breath work.

Being within a friendly & supportive community through these changes can be immensely beneficial & the open & honest chats that take place each week are pretty good too 😆

It quite literally, is our life giver.
In our Yoga practice, we move with the rhythm of our breath (vinyasa) & use our breath to ENHANCE & deepen our postures
I use breath cues constantly as everything shifts when you can bring your focus to your breath!

Class Highlight - CHAIR YOGA
We launched our chair yoga practice back in April & it has had a steady attendance since.
Accessibility is important to me & this offering allows clients who are in recovery from injury or illness, have trouble getting up & down from the floor or who are new to yoga & want to start with something gentler, the opportunity to practice.
Chair yoga will challenge you with deep twists, supported balancing & even Sun salutations & being calm with breathwork & meditative movement.
I am a regular attendee of this class & I am surprised at how much my own yang style of practice has benefitted from Katie’s class.
Chair Yoga is a welcoming yet challenging class with so many creative ways to practice & complete poses you may not have thought were within your reach.
The gorgeous Katie is our regular Chair yoga teacher.

Yoga is not a work out, it’s a work in… well, this is true & I will nearly always emphasise the incredible benefit of regular yoga practice for your mind & emotional health
But, boy, a regular yoga practice provides tremendous physical benefits too
Muscular strength & endurance
Flexibility
Balance
Joint mobility
Cardiovascular fitness (yes, really)
Detoxification (through sweating & stimulating certain organs)

This class fits under the Harvest Yoga Rutherglen umbrella, which means, you can use your class pass from our Rutherglen studio in wahgunyah too!!

Class highlight - Yin Yoga..
Our Yin practice moves slowly & incorporates principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine & Yoga asana (postures). Nearly always, we are seated or lying down during these postures.
We hold these postures for much longer than normal, anywhere between 3-5 minutes as we apply moderate stress to connective tissue to increase circulation, improve flexibility & stimulate our meridians (energetic channels of the subtle body)
Ultimately, Yin aims to bring about calm, self awareness & an emphasis on breathing.
Yin is appropriate for beginners
Our Yin classes run as follows;

It is great for beginners due to the fact that it is slower moving.

Join me (Genevieve) as I guide you through the foundations of Yoga practice - this workshop will be interactive, fun & educational as we weave our way through breath work, yoga philosophy & and break down of favourite & most common utilised poses.
You do not need any yoga experience to attend!
Ideal for; complete newbies to yoga, those wishing to enhance or learn more about yoga, if you wish to simply join in & meet like minded people in our community 😊
