Day 4 💚 Communication is powerful. It’s how we connect, belong, and stand up for ourselves. 💬

As speech pathologists, we support individuals to:

✅ Build confidence to express their needs and wants

✅ Develop skills for self-advocacy in school, work, and community settings

✅ Find their voice in moments of challenge—like standing up to bullying or seeking acceptance

✅ Use the communication tools that work best for them (spoken words, AAC, sign, writing)

Day 3 of Speech Pathology Week. ✨Inclusion through communication✨

Every voice matters. Every way of communicating deserves respect. Whether it is through words, gestures, signs or devices, when we listen, value and support all forms of expression we create a world where everyone belongs 💜🌍

One of the most heartwarming moments in therapy is watching a child’s eyes light up when they are understood. Seeing them join in play, laugh with peers and feel truly included through their unique way of communicating is a reminder that connection is always possible.

✨ Speech Pathology Week Day 2: Confidence through Communication ✨ (we're behind on our days ooops) 😬

Speech pathologists help people build confidence by supporting clear and effective communication. 💬🌟 Whether it’s getting first words, producing speech sounds, managing stuttering, or finding the right words...being able to express yourself clearly opens the door to confidence and connection. 🫶

Today, we celebrate the power of communication in helping people share their voices with pride. 💙

✨ Speech Pathology Week 2025 – Day 1 ✨
Theme: Connection through Communication 💬

Communication is more than words - it’s how we build relationships, share ideas, and feel understood. As speech pathologists, we support people of all ages to connect in the ways that matter most.

💡 This might mean:
👧 Helping a child join in play with friends
🧑 Supporting a teen to succeed at school and socially
🧑‍🦳 Guiding an adult after a stroke to reconnect with loved ones
💻 Giving someone a voice through a communication device

Because at the heart of it all…
💛 Communication is connection. Connection is everything.

It’s Book Week 2025! Reading to children isn’t just about stories—it’s about building brains, bonding, and boosting language skills that will help them for life.

When we read with our kids, we’re helping them:

🗣 Grow their vocabulary – every story adds new words to their world

🧠 Strengthen comprehension – they learn to make sense of ideas, events, and emotions

💬 Develop conversation skills – asking “What do you think will happen next?” encourages thinking and talking

❤️ Build connection – storytime is a safe, cosy moment to share together

📖 What’s your child’s current favourite book? Share it below so we can inspire each other!

Did you know… Speech pathologists don’t work alone? We’re part of your child’s support team – and that team might include:
👩‍⚕️ Paediatricians
🧠 Psychologists
✋ OTs
🦷 Dentists
🧩 Behaviour support
🧬 Neurologists
👂 Audiologists
📚 Teachers… and more!

Why? Because your child is so much more than one skill or one setting.

We want to see the whole picture — their strengths, needs, and how they grow across home, school, and play.

Here’s what teamwork means to us:
→ 🤝 Sharing knowledge across professionals
→ 🎯 Aligning goals and strategies for consistency
→ 🔁 Referring when something’s out of our scope - so each professional does what they do best
→ 🚀 Maximise progress and support families more holistically
But it’s not just who is on the team — it’s how we work together.
💬 Good communication between professionals is key.

When we stay connected and update each other (with your consent!), we can:
✅ Provide consistent strategies across settings
🚫 Avoid mixed messages
🔍 Notice patterns or progress early
🤗 Support your child more effectively together
When we collaborate, we don’t just talk — we team up.

Because helping your child thrive isn’t a one-person job. It takes a village. 🧡

At Kairos Speech, we are committed to advocating for our clients. We actively refer when needed and are building a network of multilingual professionals to meet the unique needs of the families we support.

💬 Have you had a great experience with a collaborative team? Tag them below or share your story — we’d love to hear!

✨ Self-regulation starts with co-regulation ✨

We often expect children to calm down on their own. But the truth is self-regulation isn’t something kids are born knowing how to do.

🧠 What is co-regulation?
Co-regulation is when an adult helps a child manage their emotions and body state by staying calm, connected, and supportive. It’s those moments when you sit with them through big feelings, model deep breaths, or offer a gentle touch and soothing words.

💡 Why is it important?
Children learn to regulate through repeated experiences of being co-regulated. Their nervous system needs your calm presence to feel safe before it can learn to calm itself.

🤝 Before we expect kids to ‘self-regulate,’ we need to show them how, by being their safe base first.

⚠️ Big NDIS Pricing Changes from 1 July 2025

The NDIA has released its latest Annual Pricing Review, with updates that affect both providers and participants. Here’s a summary of what’s changing:

🔻 Cuts to some allied health services
• Physiotherapy: now $183.99/hr (↓ $10)
• Dietitians & Podiatrists: now $188.99/hr (↓ $5)

🔺 Increases for others
• Psychology: now $232.99/hr (↑ $10)
• Support Workers: small increases in line with minimum wages

🚗 New cap on travel fees
• Providers can now only claim up to 50% of the hourly rate for time spent travelling
• Aims to keep travel claims proportionate to service value
• Remote/very remote loadings remain unchanged

⏱ 10-minute billing increments
• Sessions can now be billed in 10-minute blocks
• More flexibility and alignment between claimed time and services delivered

❌ Plan Management Setup Fee removed
• One-time setup fee can no longer be claimed
• Monthly fees remain

📊 Why the changes?
NDIA data shows that NDIS participants were often being charged up to 68% more than others for similar services. The new pricing aims to align costs with broader market rates, promote sustainability, and reduce over-servicing.

💬 Feeling concerned about what this means for your clients?
If you’re a provider worried that these changes (especially to travel) may reduce access to necessary services like mobile therapy, here’s what you can do:

📢 Advocate:
• Raise concerns with the NDIA and your local MP
• Connect with other providers to create a stronger voice

📝 Track & share:
• Keep case examples of how clients may be impacted
• Use these when advocating to show real-world effects

👩‍🦽 Support your clients to self-advocate
• Help them understand the changes
• Encourage them to share their needs during planning meetings
