On top of the paralysis tick cases being seen, Biosecurity Tasmania has notified all vet clinics that there is a serious parvovirus outbreak, affecting all areas of the state. Please make sure all your pets are vaccinated and all new puppies aren't taken to beaches/dog parks/street walks until fully vaccinated. This does affect cats too, so make sure any new kittens get vaccinated. People can carry the virus on their clothing as well. Symptoms include severe diarrhoea, often bloody, fever, not eating and this can often be deadly. If you are worried, please phone the clinic and we will advise how we will deal with it, please don't bring them into the actual clinic beforehand as it is super contagious :(

Zahlee came in for a check after her eyelid surgery, it looked great and she went home. Then Mum found a tick on her and came back. I removed it and it is a paralysis tick :( She is now on prevention and strict observation to see if she needs antiserum. With this and the post about the poor dog that died from a paralysis tick a week ago, I would really think about prevention. Because it is better than the cure - they can have anaphylaxis reactions for example. So I am doing a discount on 1 month and 4 month bravecto and the cat bravecto too, dont forget them, as they can also die from it. Give the clinic a call on 03 6372 5590.

This little baby was incredibly lucky. Some kind people found him in the bush, weak and falling over, and by chance crossed paths with a group of motorbike riders who directed them to Ben. Ben gave him an initial feed and removed 15 ticks, giving him a crucial first boost. He was then brought to us, where he spent a few days in hospital while we ensured all remaining ticks were removed, supported him with fluids, and helped him regain strength and weight. Now, he’s doing well and has been transferred to a soft-release sanctuary.

Bob, the sugar glider, from East Coast Natureworld had a sore tooth and needed dental x-rays to assist with identifying and removing the tooth. I am very lucky to have a great network of clinics and vets that are happy to help me. Thanks to Just Cats for allowing me to use their clinic and dental x-ray, Dr Andrew at Currumbin for advice and the fabulous Dr Sinead who did the extraction. He is doing very well on pain relief and antibiotics.
