Wellington and East Gippsland Shire communities will benefit from the new Superficial X-ray radiotherapy treatment facility at Sale Hospital, officially opened yesterday by Victorian Minister for Health, Mary-Anne Thomas.
Minister Thomas is pictured (centre) inspecting the new facility and officially opening it with CGH Board Chair, Arthur Skipitaris and Interim CEO, Mandy Pusmucans.
The facility will better address the cancer care needs of people, providing a radiation oncology outreach service supplemented by telehealth consults and a local skin radiotherapy treatment service, all supported by more modern medical imaging. The facility will also provide diagnostic CT scanning. This service is provided in partnership with Alfred Health.
CGH thanks the Victorian Government for establishing the $4.45 million facility with funding from the Australian Government.

We serve an immediate population of Central Gippsland and reach a wider community in East Gippsland in terms of more specialised services such as perinatal services, critical care and surgery.
We are unusual being both a sub-regional and an integrated health service, providing a broad range of primary, secondary and tertiary services, including a near comprehensive range of HACC services, through to adult intensive, coronary care and level 4 neonatal care.
The current focus of the health service is to leverage our integration in assisting with the breaking down of traditional program barriers and service delivery silos that have flourished, in order to develop a highly efficient system that responds to people’s needs. We do this by placing our patients at the centre of a service delivery system focused on supporting the achievement of their goals and aspirations, consistent with the principles embedded in the “active service model’.
