🧼 Cleaning Hack of the Month: Bring Your Glass Kettle Back to Life

Glass kettles are a staple in many Australian homes — sleek, practical, and (usually) sitting front and centre on the kitchen bench. But over time, mineral build-up can leave them cloudy and looking past their best.

Before you think about replacing it, try this simple yet effective hack using everyday pantry items.

Here’s how to do it:

Step 1: Baking soda
Add about ¼ cup of baking soda mixed with a little water to the kettle — just enough to cover the base. Leave it to sit for 15 seconds.

Step 2: Vinegar
Slowly pour white vinegar into the kettle until it’s nearly full.
Pour gently to avoid bubbling over.
Close the lid and leave overnight.

Step 3: Empty and rinse
The next morning, pour the vinegar out.
Rinse the kettle thoroughly with warm tap water.

Step 4: Boil
Fill the kettle with fresh, clean water and bring it to a full boil.

Done!
Pour the hot water out.
Your kettle is now clean and ready to use as normal.

✨ The result? A clearer, fresher-looking kettle — without harsh chemicals or the cost of buying a new one.
Sometimes, a small clean makes a big difference.

Cleaning Hack of the Month 🍋

Got hard water stains on taps or showerheads? Just cut a lemon in half, rub it over the area, and let it sit for about 10 minutes.
The natural acidity helps break down calcium buildup — rinse, wipe, and you’re done.
Bonus: it leaves the bathroom smelling fresh.

👨‍🍳 Chef Gavin’s dish this month: Exotic Mushroom & Asparagus Risotto — simple, creamy, and a great way to use fresh, in-season asparagus plus all those mushroom perks like antioxidants, B-vitamins and natural umami. 🍄

Ingredients:
½ brown onion • 3 garlic cloves • 1 cup Arborio rice • 1 Tbsp butter • 1 liter chicken stock • Asparagus • Oyster mushrooms
White button mushrooms • Exotic mushroom blend • Portobello mushrooms • Parmesan/Grana Padano

Method:
Sauté onion, garlic & portobello mushrooms.
Add rice + butter and coat well.
Pour in 500ml stock and simmer until absorbed.
Add remaining 500ml stock + oyster/exotic mushrooms.
Simmer for 5 mins, then add asparagus.
Cook until tender.
Finish with cheese & season to taste.
