✨ Midwifery-Led Continuity of Care — The Gold Standard ✨
We are so proud to share in celebrating the incredible 2025 statistics recently posted by our dear friend and colleague Megan from The Village Way. These outcomes are truly remarkable — and they reflect what we already know in our hearts and in the evidence: when women receive midwifery-led continuity of care, everyone benefits. 💛
Midwifery-led continuity of care — where a woman is supported by the same midwife or small team throughout pregnancy, birth, and the early postnatal period — is internationally recognised as the gold standard of maternity care. The most recent Cochrane Review comparing midwife continuity models to other models of care found that women receiving this model are more likely to have a spontaneous vaginal birth, are less likely to experience unnecessary interventions such as caesarean or instrumental births, and report more positive experiences during pregnancy, labour and postpartum. Women also tend to have better overall satisfaction — while the care remains safe for mothers and babies.
What’s even more powerful is that this isn’t just “happy feelings” — it’s backed by strong international evidence showing midwifery continuity improves outcomes, supports normal physiological birth, and keeps women at the centre of their care journey.
🙏 Thank you, Megan — for your leadership, dedication, and for creating a space where women in Gippsland can choose a model of care that celebrates and supports their unique journey through pregnancy and birth. We feel incredibly honoured to stand beside you, to grow as midwives, and to witness firsthand the difference this model makes for families in our region.
To the families who choose midwifery-led care: thank you for trusting us with your care. And to our midwifery colleagues: thank you for your passion, your commitment to evidence-informed care, and for striving every day to uphold the gold standard. 💛
Here’s to continuity, community, connection, and calm births — the way they were meant to be. 🌼
