Fascia is the connective tissue that runs throughout your entire body. It surrounds your muscles, supports your structure, and helps everything move together as one system. Think of it as a web or full-body support layer that keeps everything in place and allows smooth movement.

Fascia plays an integral role in piriformis syndrome, a condition in which the piriformis muscle in the buttocks spasms due to fascia tightening and compresses the nearby sciatic nerve, causing deep buttock pain that can radiate down the leg, sometimes with numbness and tingling. Activities like prolonged sitting, running, stair climbing, or repeated movements can overstress the muscle and cause dull aching pain in the gluteal muscles.

Relief for the Plantar Fascia. This E.L.E. – Elongating Lengthening Exercise – finds spots that are “tender” and, with some rolling downward pressure, can give relief after a day on your feet. Its aim is to release the tension of the SBL – Superficial Back Line – a functional line or fascia strip that runs from the tips of our toes to the top of the head.

As we are forward-moving and reaching creatures, this line can often tighten and get locked long, and this E.L.E. loosens and can give relief to areas on this line.

I became a Menopause Coach because I kept hearing the same thing from women I was treating, “I think I’m going through peri-menopause or menopause,” and there was always a level of uncertainty around it. Unlike periods or having babies, where there’s more information and open conversation, this stage still feels like something women are left to work out for themselves.

What I’ve seen, time and time again, is that you don’t have to just put up with it, and with a few simple, practical changes, your body can start to feel a whole lot better.

I designed my Menopause Massage sessions because I could see that what women needed during this stage was different, and a standard massage just wasn’t cutting it. The body holds more tension, responds differently, and needs a more considered approach, so this session combines straightforward guidance with targeted fascia massage to ease tension, settle the system, and help your body feel more like itself again.

What I see every day with my clients is that your body isn’t broken, it’s simply responding differently, and during this stage tension can build more quickly, the body can feel more reactive, and the things that used to shift easily just don’t seem to move the same way anymore.

This is where the right kind of support can make a real difference, not by overcomplicating things, but by working with what your body actually needs right now rather than what used to work before.

ATTENTION MASSAGE THERAPISTS: Do your customers struggle putting socks on and standing from the couch is just that little bit slower. Or...started using long handled tongs put underpants on?

Lumbar/lower back pain: sitting at desks, long sits driving, rushed lifting, or even too much gym work, garden digging, or moving too heavy stuff incorrectly, repetition starts adding up, and the lower back muscles scream back. Often, the hips tighten, the gluteals start overworking, and even simple bends become cautious. It's not necessarily an age thing; it's just the body’s been doing too much for too long in one area, probably without any extra dedicated releasing. Breathwork is so important for fueling fascia, recovery and reducing cortisol levels.
With our busy lifestyles we tend to shallow breath, only using the top half of our lungs.
Try this - Steal a moment to sit quietly. Rest one hand on chest, the other on stomach. Breath in through your nose for 4, feeling inhalation way down deep where your bottom hand is. Hold for 7, then breath out all air through your mouth for 8. Do daily and practice stillness to breath air back into the lower parts of our lungs.
