⁉️ Do I have lymphoedema, or lipoedema?? (Or both!)
🌸 Lipoedema is a not so well known connective tissue disorder that presents as an abnormal accumulation of adipose tissue (fat) in the body.
🦵Fat deposits are most commonly found in the hips, legs and upper arms, and can give the body a disproportionate appearance.
💧 Lymphoedema is a build up fluid in body tissues that happens when the lymphatic system is overloaded.
🧬 This may be a congenital issue, or
can occur when the lymphatic system is damaged eg lymph node removal as a part of cancer treatment.
❓Lipoedema, lymphoedema and obesity, are often confused for one another, and misdiagnosis is not uncommon.
😵💫 To add further confusion to diagnosis, these three conditions can all be found alongside each other.
👩🎓Below is a great video that explains some of the differences between lipoedema and lymphoedema.
