How is everyone coping with the year of the Fire Horse?

In contrast to the inward nature of the Snake (last Chinese year), the Fire Horse year tends to feel faster, louder, and more energised. It often supports taking initiative, starting new projects, making courageous decisions, and speaking more honestly about desires and needs.

Career changes, creative pursuits, entrepreneurial ideas, travel, and new relationships are all highlighted under this influence.

Watch out for the signs, and embrace the year ahead…

Meet June Montgomery !

Nurse Practitioner.

June is available every Thursday at our clinic, and is a wonderful go-to for patients wanting in-depth consults, and prescription support.

With more than 30 years of clinical experience across trauma, acute, complex, chronic, and paediatric healthcare, June has worked within both civilian and military health systems in the United Kingdom and Australia. This extensive background has shaped her ability to navigate complex health presentations while maintaining a deeply compassionate, patient-centred approach.

She has particular expertise in supporting individuals with complex or unresolved health concerns, where careful assessment, time, and clinical insight are essential. Her clinical interests include integrative approaches to complex and chronic health conditions, including the safe and evidence-informed use of medicinal cannabis where appropriate.

June hasn’t quite got the website up and running as yet, so for any enquiries just message us here 😉

Good, wholesome food is so important as we start to enter the cooler weather (except for this week where we’ve got beautiful warm weather!)

Now, those who know me, I am by far the best cook in the world – but some dishes are hearty and wholesome, and luckily I’m good at cooking those!!

This is a new recipe I’ve been trying, which brings together chicken bone broth, or you can do it as a vegetable version, and provides really good nourishment and nutrition for the body leading into the winter season.

It supports the yin, so great for mums to be, new mums and women in Peri/menopause.

The bone broth helps support building blood.

The avocado is beautifully nourishing for the yin.

I’ve also added a jar of salsa Verde, but only a mild version so it’s more for flavour than spice.

Ground cumin, which is lovely and warming, and it’s great support for the digestive system.

And chicken breast or chicken thigh fillets, used in this context to help nourish and build resilience in the body.

Meat in Chinese medicine is often used to rebuild and as a therapeutic option for those who need it. We don’t always prescribe meat in meals, because sometimes we’re better to have a more vegetable based diet.

Everyone is individual!

However, this particular dish is great for most constitutions, and specially if you are a little digestive sensitive, you could make that with low GI rice, a sweet potato mash, or just simply have it as soup like dish.

Ingredients:

600 g of chicken breast or thigh fillet
6 cups of chicken bone broth, chicken stock, or vegetable stock
Add shiitake mushrooms if you wish
2 teaspoons of ground cumin
A tin of refried beans, or pinto beans, or you may use four bean mix if you prefer
And 2 cups of salsa Verde (I got mine from Coles today)

Literally throw the whole thing in slow cooker, and cook on high for 4 to 5 hours

You can do this as a stovetop dish as well, obviously cooking for less time and watching you don’t burn to the bottom of saucepan!

Now, go Cook!

Are you prepared for this winter?

If you have Panadol, nurofen, anti-inflammatories or any other meds in your cupboard, then you also need a nice herbal, natural pharmacy alongside it!

Dr. Rebecca Brook is our resident Acupuncturist and Dr. of Chinese Medicine. She’s about to announce her annual “Winter Prep” consultations whereby she can explore your medical history and suggest some supplements and herbal formulas you should have on hand!

This type of consult is invaluable because clinical experience and evidence-based care are essential when using, trying or combining pharmaceutical medicines with supplements.

Stay tuned this week as we launch appointments for the WINTER PREP consults!

This is a personal post.

I’m extremely passionate about helping people be healthy.

We hear the word “healthy” all the time right?

It’s on food packets. It’s on marketing. It’s probably one of the most google-able words we have in our vocabulary today!

But what does it mean? And what does it mean to you?

In 2022, the national health survey is estimated that more than one and five Australians are living with multi morbidity-that means, they are living with more than one chronic healthcare condition.

Does this sound acceptable?

Can we rely on an already struggling healthcare system to support us as we get older, with more and more chronic disease?

If you can honestly answer”no” to that question, then consider the timing of your own intervention!

When will you start to be more proactive in your own healthcare?

When will you start to take that extra kilometre on your walk?

When will you start to lift something heavy, and challenge the body so that it can adapt and support you as your age?

Stay tuned, I’m gonna be running some workshops and seminars soon to help educate you, my wonderful patients, because I want you all to live long and healthy lives.

Your body is what will get you around until you leave this earth. Don’t you want to look after it?

This doesn’t need to be a scary place.

It doesn’t need to be a place you avoid because you’re not sure what piece of equipment does what!

It’s a place you can come. Be yourself. Be in your now space with your headphones on. Push yourself. Find your limits. And move past them in good time.

Strength training for women does not mean you get huge and muscly and bulky!

That means that you’re strong enough later in life that if you happen to fall over, you can capture yourself before a break.

It means your musculoskeletal system is strong enough to withstand doing simple tasks like shopping! Whilst others may be struggling to even get out of bed some days.

What kind of life do you want to be leading and you’re older?

It’s one of power, stability, strength, and relative agility, then you need to join us on Sat 17th Jan with

We will delve into all things perimenopause and postmenopause, and explain what is going on with your body AND how you can build confidence to get in the gym and get the strength you need to age well 💪

Plus you’ll feel so much better. Trust us!
