This Falls Awareness Month, we’re raising awareness about falls prevention and supporting those at risk.

After surgery or a procedure, falls can happen more easily due to factors like:
🔹 Poor balance & low blood pressure
🔹 Medications that cause dizziness
🔹 Inactivity during recovery

It’s important to stay safe both in hospital and at home. Simple fall prevention tips, like staying active and creating a safe environment, can help reduce falls and prevent injuries.

Seaford Day Surgery marked an important milestone this week with the completion of our first vitreoretinal (VR) list. Three VR cases were performed, reflecting a strong collaborative effort across our theatre and clinical teams.

The list was led by Dr Stewart Lake and supported by the introduction of our new ZEISS Medical Technology microscope, along with a trial of the Alcon UNITY® Vitreoretinal Cataract System (VCS). The session provided an opportunity for staff to become familiar with the system in our theatre setting.

As part of Cura Day Hospitals Group, we are committed to staying at the forefront of ophthalmic innovation. For a facility tour or to discuss a trial, please contact Gail Mogg at Seaford Day Surgery on reception@seaforddaysurgery.com.au

It’s World Glaucoma Week, and we’re helping raise awareness of one of Australia’s leading causes of irreversible blindness. Glaucoma affects over 300,000 Australians, and around 50% don’t know they have it, because it often develops without symptoms.

At Cura Day Hospitals Group, we work closely with glaucoma specialists to provide surgical options that help slow disease progression and prevent further permanent vision loss.

Early detection is crucial. Regular eye and optic nerve checks are the only way to diagnose glaucoma early and protect your sight.

How to Reduce the Risk of Blood Clots After Surgery

Your health and safety matter. Here are some important steps to help prevent blood clots during your recovery:
🔹 Complete your health history before admission – This helps us identify any previous clots or risk factors early.
🔹 Follow your prevention plan – You may be prescribed compression devices or medication based on your individual needs.
🔹 Move early and often – Gentle movement and leg exercises while sitting or lying down are essential.
🔹 Know the warning signs – Pain, tenderness, or swelling in your legs, shortness of breath, or chest pain should never be ignored. Report these symptoms immediately to your nurse or doctor.

Your discharge paperwork will include any at-home requirements for you and your GP.

Since 2018, Seaford Day Surgery has been undertaking day case hernia repairs. Our latest audit shows high patient satisfaction with an overall score of 98.81%.

Hernias are common in both men and women, but many people delay treatment until they become painful or serious, sometimes leading to emergency surgery. The Royal Australian College of Surgeons recommends that up to 90% of hernias can be repaired as a day case, making treatment more accessible and convenient for patients.

Our procedures generally involve a short three-hour admission. Patients receive a light general anaesthetic and long-lasting local anaesthetic, which provides pain relief for several hours after surgery. This approach ensures comfort and a quicker recovery.

At Seaford Day Surgery, hernia repairs are performed by our experienced surgeons Dr Steven Due, Dr Alex Karatassas and Dr Timothy Ganguly, who are committed to delivering exceptional care.

Don’t wait until it’s urgent. Speak to your GP about a referral to one of our specialist hernia surgeons today.
