It’s International Women’s Day. Among the 3 million carers in Australia, it is women who take on more of the carer responsibilities.

While caring is an act of love, commitment and strength, the figures show it also comes at a cost. Carers experience poorer emotional, physical and financial wellbeing, and face long-term economic insecurity because of their caring role.

Carer equity is gender equity.

This International Women’s Day, we recognise the millions of women caring for a family member and/or friend. Your caring contribution sustains health, aged care, education and disability systems. Australia would not function if not for carers.

Carers need greater recognition and practical support to participate in family, social, community, employment and education opportunities.

💜 This International Women’s Day we celebrate the unwavering dedication of women Carers in the community.

7 out of 10 primary Carers are women. Many of these women face added challenges in accessing opportunities and maintaining their wellbeing and financial security due to their caring responsibilities.

To all the women giving so much of themselves, you are seen, appreciated, and celebrated. 💜

We were proud to join the Australian Migrant Resource Centre (AMRC) for their International Women’s Day Forum, “One Community, Many Strengths.”

Our CEO Julia Overton and Executive Manager Helen Brown were among more than 180 women from diverse communities, including unpaid Carers, who came together to celebrate the strength, resilience and leadership of women from migrant and refugee backgrounds.

It was an inspiring day of stories, connection and recognition of the important contributions women make to our communities every day.

Thank you to AMRC for bringing so many women together and for hosting such a meaningful event

Three weeks out from the election and we’re still campaigning strong for Carers.

We had a great meeting with Tammy Franks MLC to talk about what Carers are telling us they need, real recognition, practical support, and investment in services that make everyday life easier.

Our conversations focused on how we can better support Carers across our community.

We welcome her strong commitment to continuing to listen to Carers and advocate for the supports and recognition they deserve.

The Aboriginal Carer Collective recently came together to connect, yarn and share their experiences and insights about the issues that impact Aboriginal Carers in our community.

It was another great opportunity to listen, learn and strengthen connections.

Great to attend the Ageing Well Networking Evening hosted by Thorne Harbour SA Health 🌈

We heard powerful heart warming stories from Rainbow Connection Program participants and volunteers.
The short film featuring people living with HIV sharing their stories was a reminder that ageing well means being seen, respected and supported at every stage of life. 💜
