**Update - The algal bloom has dissipated and the warning signs have been removed. **

Health Warning - Algal Bloom❗️

We've spotted an algal bloom off Safety Bay Beach, believed to be Trichodesmium, also known as ‘red tide’ or ‘sea sawdust’. This type of algae is known to irritate skin, so we've put signs at the beach entries to warn swimmers from entering the water. These algal blooms are common at this time of the year, and usually dissipate quickly. Our officers will continue to monitor the bloom and remove the signs when it is safe to swim in the area.
