Three Sensaroos.
One beach.
A whole lot of sensory sunshine ☀️
 
The beach is a sensory-rich playground during the school holidays:
• Tactile: warm sand, cool water, shells, pebbles, seaweed
• Auditory: waves crashing, wind blowing, seabirds calling
• Visual: sparkling water, moving waves, wide open spaces
• Olfactory: salty sea air, sunscreen, fresh coastal scents
• Proprioceptive & Vestibular: digging, carrying buckets, climbing dunes, balancing on rocks

How good is the sunshine today? ☀️ A few of our Sensaroos crew, Otto, Spikesy and Krash, were down at Semaphore beach today, making the most of their last few days off before their activity books and OT resources get officially launched into the world next Wednesday. We're thinking they'll be quite busy after then, helping young people understand themselves, their brains, their bodies and their sensory needs. Stay tuned for more info.

We're excited to announce that KaBloom's principal occupational therapist, Sarah Hausler - Occupational Therapist, Author, Writer, is presenting at an Occupational Therapy Australia CPD Empower event in March next year!

This two day training has been specifically created for occupational therapists working with adolescents, teenagers and their caregivers.

Extending on our learnings from the Kabloom Puberty Plus program, this CPD session will look more broadly at the wide range of occupational challenges of puberty for young autistic people and young people with disabilities.

I'm so honoured and excited to have been approached by Occupational Therapy Australia to deliver this two day CPD Empower event in Melbourne next March, focused on supporting Occupational Therapists working with adolescent and teenagers.

With the National Disability Insurance Scheme now entering it's own adolescence (heading into its 13th year!) the huge numbers of children who have accessed the NDIS over the past decade are also ageing with the scheme. I've been hearing a lot of anecdotal stories from paediatric occupational therapists who are seeing adolescents for the first time in their career, or in greater numbers than they previously have, who'd like to feel more confident working with this client group, due to the wide variety of occupational performance issues that arise during the adolescence and puberty transition.

I'm currently delving deep into the literature and current practice trends to bring this brand new two day workshop to life. But I'd also love to hear from any practitioners out there currently working with clients in this age group about what you'd like to see covered in this workshop?
