Winter Solstice. The longest night of the year. Allow yourself to be still and sit in this darkness, listen to the wisdom in your heart.
Let your shoulders soften, your cheeks and tongue. Allow this time of reconnection and grounding. As this long night passes give yourself permission to rest.
Tomorrow leads us towards the sun, towards spring and our time to grow and move forward.
Happy Winter Solstice 🩷

Let's talk about living in your own truth. In sanskrit, truth translates to Satya.
It is the second of Patanjali's Yamas in the 8 Limbs and is the practice of honouring and living your own truth. But what does this actually mean? To each person this will be different. Patanjali writes that by enquiring into and observing Satya brings the awareness of your true self. It is by learning to observe your true self you will also learn the truth of existence.

Ahimsa is the first of five Yamas, part of Patanjali's ethical teachings that offer guidance on how to interact with others and the world around us.
Ahimsa, translates from Sanskrit as non injury or non harm. I talk about this a lot within our yoga practice. Practicing in a way that causes no harm to your body through the physical and mental. Honouring your own sense of self without the Ego controlling what your practice should look or feel like.
Ahimsa, can not only relate to your Yoga practice but to your way of life. The choices you make for your self and others, the food you choose to eat without bringing harm to animals and Earth and walking gently in the the community and with Mother Earth to name a few!
This wisdom, thousands of years old still applies to us in the modern day.
How can you practice Ahimsa in your life, accepting the gentleness and nurturing you deserve to honour within?

Yoga is not about the posture. It is sooo much more than the westernised classes you may have experienced that are predominately stretching and are far from the traditions of Yoga. Interested in delving deeper? I've got you. Check out my latest blog post or join me for a practice, M x

The word Yoga itself translated as 'Yoke or Union'. It is the knowing that the mind, body and spirit are one. The practice of achieving a state of Yoga is through the journey towards personal Samadhi (enlightenment). It is considered the state of peace and contentment that comes with sustained pract...

Journey to the heart.
Term 3 Group Yoga Therapy commences Tuesday 11th July, 9am, 90mins for 9 weeks.
Metaphysically the heart is our home of love, compassion and joy that can be overshadowed by grief, sadness and betrayal creating this cage or heaviness in the chest, stopping us from experiencing life fully.
This journey to the heart guides you to explore this space in a safe environment through meditation, a slow flow asana practice and introspective journaling.
Are you ready to open your heart to self compassion and self love?

Your local yoga community

Our For the Folk Yoga and Wellness studio was created in 2019 by Melissa Gibson. A sanctuary solely dedicated to the practice of yoga located in Daisy Hill, Queensland.

Here we focus on evolving as a whole, physically, mentally and finding a deeper connection spiritually. We offer space, and support you to heal, nurture and nourish each time you step on the mat.

Our teachings stem from the traditional 8 limbs of yoga applied to our modern day living. Each class includes yoga asana (physical postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), meditation (dhyana) and yogic philosophy.

Our teachers are passionate, authentic teachers on their own journey, soul seekers, sharing with you their knowledge through education and their own many years of yoga experience in a honest, raw, relatable way.
