MONDAY PRICES CHANGES
A bit more volatility on the market, and quite a few produce lines are starting to move up in price. Seasonal change is part of it, with summer crops finishing and autumn crops not quite ready to pick. The other reason is that prices have been lower than normal over the past 6 weeks, and farmers are simply responding by picking less in order to re-balance market pricing.
UP
The big mover is strawberries: only large fruit will be available for the next few weeks – expect to pay around $3.95 a punnet. Supply and prices are expected to stay around this level, and usually by Easter we take them off for a couple of months. Queensland fruit will start mid-late June 😊
Aussie garlic is starting to finish up – perhaps another month – and prices have moved up to just over $19/Kg
Iceberg lettuce is up a little to $2.76, and similar small price increases for Broccoli ($3.86/Kg) and Cauliflower ($2.90 ea) thanks to cool weather in Victoria
Peaches and nectarines are moving up a little, but are still under $3/Kg. Not for very long though..
DOWN
Rockmelon supply remains buoyant, especially of the smaller fruit, and prices have dropped back below $2
Plenty of celery, with bunches around $1.75
New season red onions have eased a little: $2.15/Kg
Continental eggplant has dropped a little to $2.76/Kg
Broccolini is in between crops and virtually gone from the market, so we’ve taken it off. This gap is possibly extending into next week.
