Dr Andrea Ang is the Director of Lions Laser Vision and Director of Cornea at Lions Eye Institute. She is also a consultant ophthalmologist at Royal Perth Hospital. Andrea specialises in corneal and refractive surgery, including corneal transplantation, cataract, and laser refractive surgery.

Andrea graduated with The University of Western Australia’s gold medal in medicine, and achieved a Masters of Public Health from Harvard University with a Fulbright scholarship. After completing ophthalmology specialty training in WA, she undertook two years of advanced fellowships in Cincinnati, USA and Singapore.

Andrea is the author of several textbook chapters and scientific papers, a reviewer for a range of international journals, and presents at national and international conferences.

She is committed to excellence in teaching and is actively involved in education and training for RANZCO.

Andrea also sits on the Executive Committee of the Australasian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.

MEET THE TEAM | Meet Bec!

Bec is the youngest member of the Lions Laser Vision family, and like many people her age she is chronically online, overuses the word "slay" and is literally just a girl 💅🏻✨

Bec is not only our talented social media content creator, but she is also a familiar face in the laser vision office, where she can be found chatting with coworkers, patients or anyone who is willing to listen..

👁️‍🗨️ What do you enjoy most about the role?
The thing I enjoy most about the role is helping people. Being able to provide people with life changing outcomes like laser eye surgery is really heartwarming! 💙

👁️‍🗨️ What is the most common question you get asked?
“Why haven’t you had laser surgery?!” is probably the MOST common question I get! Unfortunately I am as blind as a bat so I don’t qualify, however I am a suitable candidate for an ICL! (but I’m too chicken to go ahead) 🐓

👁️‍🗨️ What is something interesting about you?
Speaking of being blind, something interesting about me is I have been wearing glasses since I was 18 months old. 👶🏼
I have a lazy eye, and so does my younger brother! (We have very similar prescriptions)
The interesting part is our parents have pretty normal vision and only need glasses now to read, so not sure where the crazy prescriptions came from!

MEET THE TEAM | Meet Tammy!

Tammy is our Team Leader Extraordinaire, making sure the Lions Laser Vision clinic runs smoothly. You can find her at the reception desk or working with the LASIK surgery nurses and clinicians.

👁️‍🗨️ What do you enjoy most about your role?
I like to chat to patients and find out how long they have been considering laser eye surgery, and what they will enjoy the most about being glasses free.

👁️‍🗨️ What is the most common question you get asked?
If I can make a cob loaf to take to events 😀 🍞
I often get asked “how long will I need to take off work?”. Normally you will only need to take off the day of surgery and the following day. If your job involves a lot of computer work or if you work in a dusty environment you may require a little longer off. Our ophthalmologists are able to provide you with a medical certificate on the day of surgery if needed.

👁️‍🗨️ What is the most “useless” talent you have?
My useless talent is being able to remember phone numbers from childhood and early adulthood, before we relied on our mobile phones. I also love karaoke but am terrible at it.
