The positive impact of therapy animals in clinical settings is well recognised. They bring comfort, calm and joy to patients and staff alike. It’s no surprise then that Glyn Morley and his four‑legged companion Oscar are welcomed visitors at GV Health any day of the week.

For the past year, Glyn and Oscar have been making regular rounds across GV Health, lifting spirits wherever they go.

“I love putting a smile on patients’ faces. They love Oscar,” said Glyn.

Glyn said he finds volunteering deeply rewarding. He can see the difference he and Oscar make to people going through a difficult time in hospital.

“It’s good for us, its good for the patients and it’s good for the hospital. It’s a win all round.”

GV Health’s Emergency Department (ED) is still continuing to experience high demand, resulting in lengthy wait times for patients with non-urgent matters.

We ask that community members only come to the Emergency Department for conditions that are urgent or life-threatening.
The Shepparton Medicare Urgent Care Clinic (UCC) provides urgent care for non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses. The UCC is located at 49 Graham Street. For more information, including operating hours visit https://shepmed.mthc.com.au/mucc/
The Victorian Virtual Emergency Department (VVED) is another alternative service that lets you access care for non-life-threatening emergencies. You can connect to the VVED from anywhere in Victoria. Visit https://www.vved.org.au/patients/

As we celebrate 150 years of GV Health, and in partnership with the Historical Society of Mooroopna (the site of the original hospital), we invite you to take part in special tours to see first-hand how our facilities have grown.

Guided tours are available at the Shepparton Hospital on Saturday 13 June starting from 10am, or on Sunday 14 June from 11am. Meet at the Main Entrance.

The Historical Society of Mooroopna will open specially on Saturday 13 June from 11am to 2pm, and Sunday 14 June from 11am to 1pm. While there will be no guided tours, staff will be on hand to answer any questions you might have. No bookings are required. All tours are free of charge.

Upgrade works are currently underway at the Goulburn Valley Highway and Graham Street intersection, and are expected to continue until mid-2026.

These works may impact access to GV Health (Shepparton Hospital), with lane closures, reduced speed limits and occasional detours in place during working hours (Monday to Friday, 7am–5pm, with some weekend work if required).

What to expect:

- One lane in each direction will remain open
- Possible temporary closure of access to Graham Street from the highway
- Reduced speeds through the area
- Changes to parking and some footpath closures

We encourage patients, visitors and staff to allow extra travel time when coming to the hospital.

Monday 11 - Sunday 17 May is Dietitians Week. Food and nutrition are cornerstones of health and wellbeing. Research demonstrates that nutrition intervention reduces hospital admissions, enhances medical outcomes and significantly improve quality of life for individuals and their families.

Have you spotted the Blue Bench at our main entrance? It is made entirely from recycled hospital materials including sterilisation wrap, plastic kidney dishes, curtains and patient gowns.

Thanks to our partnership with Cleanaway Daniels and Replas, GV Health is diverting thousands of kilograms of hospital waste from landfill each year and transforming it into sustainable commercial and household products. ♻️🙌
