A big thank you to the team at Born Maternity for their generous support of our Special Care Nursery.

Following the Shepparton Baby & Toddler Expo, Born Maternity donated $250 raised through a raffle, helping support local babies and families in our care.
The donation holds special meaning, with the team sharing a personal connection to Special Care Nursery services and a strong desire to give back to families during what can be a challenging time.

We’re incredibly grateful for their support and look forward to continuing this connection into the future.

Amy De Paola has been appointed Director of GV Health Foundation and Fundraising, bringing more than two decades of communications and community engagement experience in the local area to the health sector.

A passionate advocate for strengthening outcomes for young people and families across the Goulburn Valley, Amy is known for her commitment within the local not-for-profit community.

She previously served as Communications Coordinator at the Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project, where she played a key role in building partnerships and advancing initiatives focused on equity, education and long-term community prosperity.

Amy is a member of the Shepparton Central Rotary Club, a volunteer at the Biggest Ever Blokes Lunch event, and Co-Chair of the Ladies Who Lunch committee. During the pandemic, she also established Food Link, a COVID-19 relief meals program, and raised over $100,000 to support food agencies, schools and community groups with meals, helping to provide support and connection to isolated community members through 2020 and 2021.

Prior to her work at Lighthouse, Amy spent close to 20 years at Goulburn Valley Grammar School as Communications Coordinator, where she was responsible for connecting the school community through numerous publications and engagement.

In her new health-focused role, Amy will lead fundraising and philanthropic engagement to support GV Health’s vital services and future growth.

Please follow the GV Health Foundation to stay up to date.

Get to know our 2026 Gap Year Program cohort: Charlie Ratcliffe

Charlie is currently taking a gap year working in healthcare while completing her Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance. Outside of work, she manages Augustus Gelatery, where she has worked for just over three years. Charlie decided to take a gap year to gain practical experience in the health sector and develop a stronger understanding of the field before committing to further study.

“The first few days were a bit daunting, stepping into a completely new environment and learning how everything worked,” she said.
“But after the first week or two I started to settle in and build my confidence.”

Charlie says one of the highlights so far has been interacting with patients.
“Being able to speak with patients and help them is really rewarding and has been one of my favourite parts of the role.”

Looking ahead, Charlie is excited about continuing to learn and grow through the program.

The GAP Year Program is led by Organisational Development. For all enquires contact Alison Nolan, Alison.nolan@gvhealth.org.au and Michael Reed, Michael.reed@gvhealth.org.au

GV Health is working closely with the The Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne and other Hume region health services to improve how patients access care and return home sooner.

GV Health staff have been taking part in weekly online meetings with metro and regional partners to strengthen patient flow, improve coordination and share insights across services.

Teams have also visited the Royal Melbourne Hospital to see their Digital Coordination Centre in action, learning how real-time data and collaboration can support more efficient, connected care.

This partnership is helping ensure local patients can access specialist care when needed and return closer to home to recover with the support of their community.

Thanks to regional funding from the Good Friday Appeal, GV Health has purchased Bili Blankets to support phototherapy care for suitable babies in our maternity unit and special care nursery.

This means babies like Nylah can stay with their parents while receiving treatment, supporting bonding and keeping families together during those important early days.

“It’s made such a difference being able to have her in the room with us, now’s a really important time for bonding,” mum Kira said.

“We wouldn’t have got to spend the day with her, it’s been a lot easier having her in the room with us,” dad Luke said.

A huge thank you to the Good Friday Appeal and our generous community, your support is making a real difference for local families.

Get to know our 2026 Gap Year Program cohort: Megan Payne

Megan is completing a Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance while working with the Speech Pathology team at GV Health. She first became interested in healthcare after volunteering at the hospital during Year 12 and decided to take a GAP year to explore allied health careers.

“Since my first day I’ve been welcomed by so many people, and the Speech Pathology team has been incredibly supportive,” she said.

One of the biggest surprises has been learning how many different allied health disciplines work together to support patients.

“I’ve been able to see areas like physiotherapy, occupational therapy and social work, which has been really interesting.”

Megan says the experience has already broadened her knowledge and is helping her decide which healthcare pathway she would like to pursue in the future.

During Cultural Diversity Week, GV Health celebrated the richness of our diverse workforce through food, connection and shared experiences.

Our Shepparton hospital staff cafeteria came alive with a special international menu each day, offering flavours from around the world and creating a welcoming space for staff to come together, share stories and experience different cultures.

We also welcomed new team members at our regular staff meet and greet, providing a relaxed opportunity to connect, build relationships and learn from one another.
These moments highlight how our diversity strengthens us, enriching our workplace and the care we provide to our community.

Thanks to everyone who got involved! 🩷
