Just in case you missed it ...
The new NDIS Worker Screening Check starts today.
From today everyone who is employed by a registered provider and who works, or wants to work, closely with NDIS participants will have to go through this background check.
The check is designed to try and minimise some of the risks to people with disability.
Everyone's results will be kept on the new NDIS Worker Screening Database.
All providers who are NDIS registered must make sure their workers have been given the all clear before they are allowed to work with participants.
Workers who work for self managed participants or unregistered providers are not required to complete the check. But everyone can request workers complete it before doing any work.
Self managed participants and unregistered providers will also be able to look to look at the database. But first they will need to apply to be able to see it.
The process is still a bit different between each state and territory. Youโll have to check with your stateโs new "Worker Screening Unit" (see the links below) to find out what workers need to do.
And while the new process starts today, obviously it will take a while to get through all existing workers.
This is all new and can be a bit confusing. We are working on a short article for our website trying to summarise all the changes.
But in the meantime, there is more info on the NDIS Quality and Safeguards website.
