We are now open again and looking forward to seeing you all back in the clinic for face-to-face treatment.

11/10/2021

Dear patients,

Shepparton Sports and Spinal Physiotherapy had a patient attend the clinic on Wednesday 06/10/21 between 3:00pm - 3:45pm, who has since tested positive to Covid.

This makes our clinic a Tier 1 exposure site. We are working with the Goulburn Valley Health Local Public Health Unit to manage the situation. The clinic will be closed while we undergo a deep clean. All appointments will be cancelled until the Department has certified the deep clean.

If you visited the clinic during this time and are deemed to be a close contact, the Department’s contact tracers will be in touch. If you visited the clinic after this date, please monitor for Covid related symptoms and get tested.

We will be in touch with everyone who has an appointment to reschedule.

Sincerely,

The team at Shepparton Sports and Spinal Physiotherapy

Osgood-Schlatter Disease is a common condition that occurs in adolescents experiencing growth spurts and playing high-impact sports. It is caused by the patella tendon tugging at the growth plate on the shin bone (tibia), causing inflammation. This area can be very tender to touch, and can become sore when playing high impact sports like basketball, football and netball.
Some ways you can manage your pain are by taking care of your muscles. You can do this by
1. Stretching your quads and hamstrings
2. Knee taping for support
3. Massage or use a foam roller on your quads and hamstrings
4. Muscle strengthening exercises

If you have been into our practice in the last few days, you would have noticed our staff are wearing face masks. This is because as of Monday afternoon, we received notice from the Victorian Government that all healthcare workers in Victoria are now required to wear a mask. It has also been recommended that when attending appointments patients can also wear a mask, however this is not mandatory. We will have some masks available if you choose to wear one, but where possible please bring your own.

DHHS Announcement: Effective immediately ALL health care workers in Victoria – including those in regional and rural areas - must wear a level 1 or type 1 disposable surgical mask in public-facing areas, particularly where adequate social distancing is not possible. It is recommended that patients should also wear face coverings (either reusable/disposable masks or scarves) in these same environments.

Did you know that osteoarthritis (arthritis) is graded based on its severity? So you may have been diagnosed with arthritis before, but you could be on a completely different level to the next person that has arthritis. Total joint replacements are a commonly known treatment for knee arthritis. Current research shows that it may not be the first line of treatment as once thought. Studies have demonstrated that only those with grade 3 or 4 arthritis have a good outcome with surgery. This means that those with grade 1 or 2 arthritis will not only get a better outcome with physiotherapy but may also prevent the need for surgery later on in life.

So what to do now with this information? Chat with your GP and physiotherapist about your scans and seek the best treatment based on your graded arthritis!
