Summer is in full swing at Billabong Wholesale Plant Nursery, and our hot-houses are bursting with new life!

Our incredible Supported Employees have been showcasing their propagation skills, filling the nursery with beautiful cuttings and thriving young plants — all under the guidance of our qualified horticulturalists, who oversee the process and support skill development every step of the way.

We’re proud to have a team of paid employees with disabilities who bring anywhere from 2 months to over 25 years of horticulture experience, passion, and talent to our nursery. Their dedication to growing both indigenous native and non‑native plants shines through in everything they do.

🔥 SHEPPARTON, WE’RE MELTING! 🔥

With this week’s heatwave turning Shepparton into a giant air fryer, we’ve made the call to close our Over the Counter Container Deposit Scheme for the week. It’s simply too hot to be outside counting cans — we love our team, but we’re not trying to turn them into rotisserie chickens.

This is usually one of our biggest weeks, so we’d be super grateful if you could stash your cans for a little longer and bring them in from Monday 2nd February, 9:30am – 2:30pm.

In the meantime, stay cool, drink plenty of water, and please — for the love of all things fresh — tip out those beer dregs before storing your bottles. Nothing says “summer” like a hot, sun‑baked mystery brew… and not in a good way.

♻️ Container Deposit Scheme is Back — and What a 2026 Reopening!

Our ConnectGV Container Deposit Scheme reopened yesterday and it was a bumper first day. More than 5,000 eligible containers came across the counter — an incredible effort from our community!

It was all hands on deck, including our amazing supported employees from the Wholesale Nursery, who jumped in with enthusiasm and teamwork to keep things running smoothly.

A huge well‑done to our entire team, and an even bigger thank you to everyone who continues to support the Billabong Container Deposit Scheme. Your recycling efforts make a real difference — and we hope the extra dollars in your pocket are especially helpful at this time of year.

Here’s to more recycling, more impact and more great days ahead!

Due to the catastrophic weather predicted for tomorrow and to ensure staff safety the Over the Counter Container Deposit refund point will not open tomorrow, Friday 9th January. We apologise for any inconvenience but encourage you to stay home, keep cool and return your eligible containers next week, we would love to see you!

Unfortunately, we have had to turn away customers for our Container Deposit Scheme today (5/1/26) as our storage bins are over-flowing with cans and bottles have been unable to be replenished. We are so sorry for the inconvenience! We hope to reopen as soon as possible tomorrow after empty bins are dropped off. We will keep you informed when we do.
