It is common for children to present with growth-related asymmetry during certain phases of their development. We tend to see this when a parent or carer has noticed a contrast or variation in:

Pes Planus or Flat Feet is one of the most common parental concerns we see in clinic, often brought about by a parent noticing a hereditary likeness to their own feet.
Two important facts here are:
1. It is simple and easy to have this presentation checked, and
2. Many cases of Pes Planus require little or no immediate treatment.
During an assessment our Paediatric Podiatrists will take measurements to form baseline findings for the child, which serve as a good comparison in future years. During this assessment you will also be informed as to what is normal, what is not, and what to look out for.
If treatment is needed, the modality will depend on the cause and severity of the child’s presentation, and our team of Paediatric Podiatrists will work with you to find what is most cost effective and efficient for your child and family’s needs.

Does my child need orthotics?
Orthotics are removable inserts designed to help support and align the feet and lower limbs. They are generally recommended when wedging and kinetic in-shoe modifications are not considered sufficient to control or correct the foot position or lower limb presentation.

”My child is in-toeing. Should I visit a podiatrist?”
In-toeing is when the feet turn inwards when walking, and is another common presentation we see at Little Big Feet Podiatry.
This typically arises from one of three underlying conditions - metatarsus adductus, internal tibial torsion or femoral anteversion. While these conditions can be considered normal, it is the complication or resulting presentation that may require treatment.
It is worth seeing a Paediatric Podiatrist as they can aid in the control of functional movement through positional management. Bracing systems, in shoe modifications and orthotic therapies can be used to manage this presentation throughout the growth phases where they are most present.
