Room to Grow is accepting assessment referrals with good availability in the coming weeks 🌿

We have current availability with our Educational and Developmental Psychologist Kelly Densham.

Kelly offers comprehensive psychological assessments to diagnose learning disabilities, attention disorders, intellectual disabilities, and autism in verbal individuals. She has a particular interest in the assessment of twice-exceptional (2e) individuals—those who demonstrate both exceptional abilities and coexisting challenges.

Kelly provides assessment, diagnosis, and tailored educational support planning for:

• Specific Learning Disorders (Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia)
• Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
• Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) (for verbal individuals)

Kelly offers a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation to discuss concerns and determine assessment suitability and options before progressing with the assessment process.

🌿 Today is R U OK? Day — a reminder of the power of a simple, genuine conversation.

Checking in with someone doesn’t mean you need to have all the answers. What matters most is showing you care, listening without judgment, and being present.

đź’› Ask with kindness.
đź’› Listen with empathy.
đź’› Encourage action if needed.
đź’› Check back in.

Sometimes, just knowing someone notices and cares can make a world of difference. Let’s keep the conversation going — not just today, but every day.

If you or someone you know is struggling, support is available. You don’t have to go through it alone. Find out more at ruok.org.au

We all fall into the trap of comparison—especially when we only see the polished parts of other people’s lives. But comparison rarely motivates us; instead, it often steals our joy and fuels self-criticism.

This is a reminder to gently turn inward: measure your growth against your own journey, not against someone else’s.

Your pace is enough. Your path is yours. đź’š

Setting Boundaries with Family Isn’t Easy — But It’s Necessary

Family dynamics can be complex and emotional. But maintaining connection shouldn’t come at the cost of your wellbeing.

Setting boundaries doesn’t mean shutting people out — it means creating space for respect and emotional safety.

It’s okay to say:
🔹 “I’m not available to talk about that right now.”
🔹 “Let’s agree to disagree.”
🔹 “I need some space to recharge.”

Boundaries are an act of self-respect, not rejection. They help protect your energy, support emotional regulation, and can actually strengthen relationships over time.

Tough conversations are a part of life—whether it’s setting a boundary, expressing a concern, or addressing a conflict. From a psychological perspective, how we approach these moments can greatly affect both our wellbeing and our relationships.

Remember, it’s not about “winning” the conversation—it’s about honouring your feelings while respecting the relationship.

Not every thought deserves our attention.

Our minds are constantly generating thoughts—some helpful, some critical, some completely untrue.

From a psychological perspective, learning to observe our thoughts without attaching to them is a powerful act of self-regulation.

You can acknowledge a thought without believing it.
You can notice worry without spiralling into it.
You can let a thought come... and go.

This is the essence of cognitive defusion—a practice in therapies like ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy)—where we create space between ourselves and our thoughts.

✨ Your thoughts are not always facts.
✨ You don’t have to act on or accept every mental narrative.

There is peace in noticing... and releasing.

Psychological self-care involves more than relaxation—it’s about cultivating emotional awareness, cognitive flexibility, and inner safety

From a clinical perspective, it means:
🔹 Recognising your emotional states without judgment
🔹 Identifying unhelpful thought patterns and gently challenging them
🔹 Setting and maintaining boundaries to reduce overwhelm
🔹 Engaging in restorative practices that regulate your nervous system (like mindfulness, reflective journaling, or therapy)
🔹 Making space for meaning, values, and connection

Self-care is not a reward for burnout—it's a protective strategy that supports emotional resilience and long-term wellbeing

✨ You are allowed to prioritise your mental health—not just in crisis, but every day
