On my walk last week, I heard Alan Watts share a limerick that made me stop in my tracks (no pun intended)
It went like this..
“There once was a man that said, ‘Damn!’
I am what I am what I am.
A creature that moves
In determinate grooves -
I’m not even a bus, I’m a tram.”
It’s lighthearted - but also cuttingly true.
So many of us live in grooves we didn’t consciously choose.
Patterns that formed early.
Responses we learned to repeat.
Tracks that feel like us, but really… they were just the surest way forward at the time.
When I work with clients, I don’t help them lay down a new track.
I help them see the one they’re on.
I help them understand why they keep falling into the same reactions, choices, and roles.
And then together, we gently untangle the need for those grooves to exist at all.
We rewire your thinking.
So that there’s no longer anything left to react to.
Sometimes that shift looks like:
– Being able to say “no” without guilt
– Asking for support without apologising
– Or finally speaking with honesty instead of swallowing your truth
If any of that feels familiar.. If you’re sensing it’s time to move differently -
