I remember when anxiety became so consuming that I started quietly redesigning my entire life around it.
I genuinely believed I would never again be able to fully relax at social events because, well… 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘧 𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘤 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘢𝘤𝘬? I accepted that sleeping medication would probably be part of my future forever. And little by little, I started making 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗲𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀 with myself about who I could no longer be.
𝘐 𝘸𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘵𝘳𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘧𝘶𝘭 because I won’t be able to cope with the pressure anyway.
𝘐 𝘸𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘮𝘺 𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 or allow myself to be known because people might judge me.
𝘐 𝘸𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘬 𝘶𝘱, 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢 𝘷𝘪𝘦𝘸, 𝘰𝘳 𝘴𝘦𝘵 𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 because I can barely hold myself together.
And the hardest part is that when you live with anxiety for long enough, those thoughts stop feeling like fear and start feeling like truth.
What changed everything was finally understanding that anxiety wasn’t proof there was something wrong with me. It was a 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻. A 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆. Old learning trying desperately to keep me safe in ways that no longer fit my life.
That understanding became the doorway.
It’s also why I do the work I do today. Because I know how lonely it can feel when your world keeps getting smaller while everyone around you seems to carry on as though life is easy. And I also know how powerful it is when someone finally helps you make sense of what’s been happening inside your mind.
If this feels familiar, I’d love to invite you to book a free call with me. Sometimes 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 can change the way you see yourself forever.
