This position is located around the Sydney metro, Macarthur and Southern Highlands regions with our company’s base being at Smeaton Grange, however travel to other sites in company vehicles during work hours, as directed and required is part of the position.
This position reports directly to the Crew Leader, however may receive directions from the Operations Manager or the General Manager from time to time.
The position of Grave Digger/Crew Member requires staff to perform tasks for the Personal Services Australia group of companies, which includes Macarthur Grange Crematorium, Platinum Funeral Supplies, Independent Mortuary Services and PSA Gravedigging and Burial Services. Staff may be required to perform tasks in any area of the business.
Responsibilities
The main responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
• Grave excavation/preparation using appropriate machinery and hand tools
• Graveside funeral services set up
When the demand for the above duties are not required, the following duties will be allocated;
• Transfer of deceased from hospitals, nursing homes, funeral directors, mortuaries, the Coroner and private homes
• Handling of deceased persons, including placing in body bag, transferring to transfer trolley, and handling the deceased to PSA sites
• Coffining of deceased persons, loading hearses
• Use of the cremator
• Processing of ashes
• Picking, loading and delivery of coffins
• Cleaning of work areas
Other Duties
From time to time crew members will be directed to perform other reasonable duties or tasks for the employer in line with their qualifications, skills and experience.
Qualifications, Licenses and Skills
Essential
• NSW Drivers license
• Professional approach, manner, and presentation
• Ability to work under pressure
• A strong work ethic
• Ability to work well unsupervised and within a close team environment
Desirable
• Experience operating an excavator and appropriate licenses
• LR or MR truck license
• Forklift ticket
