I am a great fan of This Naked Mind and Annie Grace, the founder.
Many patients book in to see me for weight loss. The answer is simple... eat/drink less (insert word here) chocolate, alcohol, KFC........
However, weight loss IS NOT SIMPLE there are a whole lot of reasons and contributing factors .. thyroid, insulin resistance, hormones.... yadayadayada... Nevertheless, 'comfort' eating is a big factor for many people, particularly women. I love this post from Annie Grace below about what drives emotional eating. Please do check out her work.
"Nourishment isnโt just about food. Or sleep. Or green smoothies.
Itโs about what weโre truly hungry for.
And sometimes, that hunger isnโt obvious.
Sometimes it shows up as a cravingโfor sugar, alcohol, attention, noise, control, chaos.
Sometimes it shows up as exhaustion. Or anxiety. Or snapping at the people we love.
And sometimesโฆ itโs just a dull ache.
That feeling of somethingโs missing, even when life looks fine on paper.
Sound familiar?
Hereโs what Iโve found to be true:
We all have hungers weโre not even aware of.
Emotional hunger.
Spiritual hunger.
The need to be seen. Heard. Loved. Understood.
But because we donโt always recognize those needsโor because weโve been taught to ignore themโwe reach for
whatโs easy.
We drink.
We scroll.
We shop.
We binge.
We run ourselves ragged.
Itโs not because weโre weak.
Itโs because weโre trying to
fill a hole without knowing what itโs shaped like.
If this tracks hereโs your invitation to try this instead:
Take a moment.
Get still.
And ask yourself this -
What am I truly hungry for right now?
Is it connection?
Peace?
Creativity?
Rest?
Purpose?
Permission to be fully, unapologetically you?
You donโt need to fix it all today.
But you
can
start by noticing.
One of the most beautiful things about becoming aware of our deeper hunger is this:
Once we see it, we can nourish it
intentionally
โnot by numbing it with quick fixes, but by feeding it what it actually needs.
Let yourself be curious.
Compassionate.
And just a little more open to what your soul might be asking for."
