I am a great fan of This Naked Mind and Annie Grace, the founder.

Many patients book in to see me for weight loss. The answer is simple... eat/drink less (insert word here) chocolate, alcohol, KFC........

However, weight loss IS NOT SIMPLE there are a whole lot of reasons and contributing factors .. thyroid, insulin resistance, hormones.... yadayadayada... Nevertheless, 'comfort' eating is a big factor for many people, particularly women. I love this post from Annie Grace below about what drives emotional eating. Please do check out her work.

"Nourishment isnโ€™t just about food. Or sleep. Or green smoothies.

Itโ€™s about what weโ€™re truly hungry for.

And sometimes, that hunger isnโ€™t obvious.

Sometimes it shows up as a cravingโ€”for sugar, alcohol, attention, noise, control, chaos.

Sometimes it shows up as exhaustion. Or anxiety. Or snapping at the people we love.

And sometimesโ€ฆ itโ€™s just a dull ache.

That feeling of somethingโ€™s missing, even when life looks fine on paper.

Sound familiar?

Hereโ€™s what Iโ€™ve found to be true:
We all have hungers weโ€™re not even aware of.

Emotional hunger.
Spiritual hunger.
The need to be seen. Heard. Loved. Understood.

But because we donโ€™t always recognize those needsโ€”or because weโ€™ve been taught to ignore themโ€”we reach for
whatโ€™s easy.

We drink.
We scroll.
We shop.
We binge.
We run ourselves ragged.

Itโ€™s not because weโ€™re weak.
Itโ€™s because weโ€™re trying to
fill a hole without knowing what itโ€™s shaped like.

If this tracks hereโ€™s your invitation to try this instead:
Take a moment.
Get still.
And ask yourself this -
What am I truly hungry for right now?

Is it connection?
Peace?
Creativity?
Rest?
Purpose?
Permission to be fully, unapologetically you?

You donโ€™t need to fix it all today.

One of the most beautiful things about becoming aware of our deeper hunger is this:
Once we see it, we can nourish it
intentionally

Long-term stress doesnโ€™t just make us feel awful โ€” it can change how our immune system works, right down to the cellular level.

New research indicates that chronic daily stress can alter our immunity in ways that facilitate the growth of cancer cells. As someone who's worked with many people going through a cancer diagnosis, this doesn't surprise me. Patients often tell me โ€” โ€œI know it was the stress that triggered this.โ€ Divorce. Bankruptcy. Burnout.

Thereโ€™s another layer, too: cortisol resistance. After prolonged stress, our stress hormone, cortisol, becomes less effective. The body becomes stuck in a cycle of inflammation and impaired immune function. But there are ways to help.

Breathing retraining โ€” like the Buteyko method I teach โ€” helps calm the nervous system by toning the vagus nerve. I also use adaptogenic herbs like Withania (ashwagandha), rhodiola, and licorice. These tools work beautifully to support the body's return to balance.

I first made this Thai Salad recipe back in 2008 and still have the original newspaper clipping lovingly stored in my ring binder. (Yes, I was that personโ€”assiduously collecting recipes from Good Weekend in the Herald.) ๐Ÿ“ฐ

Eating at one of Neil Perryโ€™s restaurants might be the stuff of dreams, but his recipes are refreshingly achievableโ€”not too fiddly, and they always work out beautifully.

Neilโ€™s original recipe used green pawpaw, but I prefer the tang of green mango. The beansprouts are a virtuous addition that somehow manage not to bore you senseless. The coconut? ๐Ÿฅฅ Only shredded or flaked will doโ€”trust me on this.

And while Iโ€™m a naturopath and know peanuts๐Ÿฅœ can be divisive, I think they work beautifully here (though cashews are a fine substitute).
