Welcome to Part 1 of our 4-part video series on psychosocial disability supports.

As the NDIS and mental health systems continue to evolve, clarity of role has never been more important.

In Video 1 of this series, we explore:

With lived-experience leadership and system design in mind, what changes are most needed to clearly distinguish psychosocial disability supports from clinical mental health treatment — while keeping participants at the centre?

Role confusion doesn’t just create frustration — it affects funding pathways, workforce capability, participant experience, and ultimately outcomes.

It’s time for a shift in how we talk about psychosocial supports. The focus needs to move toward understanding the real barriers people face in achieving a meaningful quality of life — and responding to those.

🎯 Next Thursday, we’ll be discussing the purpose and impact of psychosocial supports. Stay tuned.

Thanks to Taimi Allan for participating on these series

✨ Thank You for Joining Us! ✨

A huge thanks to everyone who attended Navigating the Crossroads: Strengthening Disability and Mental Health! Your energy and insights made the event truly special.

Our Managing Director and Founder, Nike, reminded us that communication goes beyond words. She highlighted the Australian Government’s free Auslan resources—online dictionaries and TAFE courses up to Certificate III—and encouraged everyone to learn Auslan to foster inclusion and reduce isolation for the Deaf community.

Sandra reminded us that psychosocial disability is a functional disability and that clinical reports reflect real, lived experiences.

We were also inspired by Victoria, who shared her journey through poetic words, showing us that adverse childhood experiences do not define us. It’s her resilience, compassion, and sense of purpose that truly shape her story.

Taimi emphasised the power of early intervention, building bridges, and seeing people—not just patients.

Sam, Branka, and Sophie highlighted that people don’t experience systems—they experience support. Collaboration, keeping the person at the centre, and compassion are key.

We can’t wait to explore future partnerships and collaborations. Follow us and reach out if you’d like to connect!

Are we clear about the role of psychosocial disability supports — and how they differ from mental health treatment?
Over the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing a 4-part video series featuring Taimi Allen (Mental Health commissioner for SA), who will answer these critical questions:
• What changes are needed to keep participants at the centre?
• Why does this work matter as demand grows?
• What difference does a functional, everyday-life perspective make?
• Why is now the right time to clarify roles and outcomes across the sector?
This series isn’t just about words — it’s about real impact for participants, services, and providers.
Video 1 drops soon — stay tuned!

Good luck team.
