Disability Support Workers - physical & Behavioural Support
Casual / Permanent Part-Time
We are seeking experienced Disability Support Workers to support two adults, one of whom has an acquired neurological injury (brain injury). Both participants present with complex physical and behavioural support needs.
These are high-responsibility roles and are not suitable for entry-level workers.
About the Role
You will be supporting individuals who:
• Require hands-on physical assistance, including assisted transfers
• Experience periods of emotional or behavioural dysregulation requiring skilled intervention
• Experience significant communication difficulties, including speech that can be hard to interpret
Supports are delivered in the home and community and require workers who are observant, confident and able to respond appropriately in dynamic and unpredictable situations.
Communication Requirements (Essential)
Due to the nature of the participant’s acquired neurological injury (brain injury), communication can be impaired and difficult to understand.
As a result, this role requires:
• Exceptional spoken English comprehension
• Ability to accurately understand unclear, slurred, or inconsistent speech
• Confidence to ask for clarification, repeat back information and confirm understanding
• Ability to communicate calmly and clearly during distress or behavioural escalation
• Strong written English for accurate documentation, progress notes and incident reporting
Please note: This role is not suitable for workers who are still developing English language confidence, due to the participant’s complex communication needs and safety requirements.
Shifts may include personal care, physical assistance, behavioural support and periods of emotional or behavioural dysregulation requiring skilled intervention.
Essential Experience & Skills
• Demonstrated experience supporting people with neurological injury, brain injury, or similar neurological conditions
• Confidence with physical assistance and manual handling, including transfers
• Experience implementing Behaviour Support Plans
• Strong emotional regulation, patience and professional boundaries
• Reliability, consistency, and sound judgement
Mandatory Checks & Qualifications
• NDIS Worker Screening Check
• First Aid & CPR
• Certificate III or IV in Disability / Individual Support (or significant relevant experience)
What We Offer
• Strong clinical and management oversight
• Structured behaviour support guidance
• Consistent shifts with established participants
• A professional, supportive team that prioritises safety, dignity and quality care
