Djapana Cares is a community charity group aimed at encouraging people to use their skills in various crafts, as well as in recycling (ie sprucing up preloved cuddly toys etc) and getting them to people in need. We will also soon be opening up a Community Library and Resource Centre, and we have a fairly regular information(flyers and other information on health services and support, networking ma
inly in the mental health field and sales table at local markets and car boot sales. The items sold are donated for that purpose and make enough money to cover the fees. Some of our targets are Domestic Violence Refuges, psychiatric wards (mainly activity/craft project packs), and the victims of the Australian Goverments misguided Intervention. We will also be helping remote communities with anything we can get donated, some are very poor and have almost no shops, so what they are able to buy is limited not only by choice, but by exorbitant travel costs (imagine if you had to use half your pension to chip in to charter a plane to go and spend the remaining half, after food and essential living expenses, how much would be left for luxuries like clothing and toys for the kids? These are the people we want to help. The Red Cross sent care packages to people during the Wars, well we aim to do the same thing.
