If you’ve been following along lately, you’ll know I’ve been talking about the cost of always being the strong one.
Holding it together. Being reliable. Getting it done.
But today, for Frequency Friday, we’re going deeper.
Let’s talk about what’s actually happening inside your body when you experience joy. Because this isn’t fluff. It’s physiology.
🧠Your Nervous System Has Two Main Modes
Your autonomic nervous system runs largely on autopilot.
It has two key branches:
Sympathetic → fight, flight, pressure, urgency
Parasympathetic → rest, repair, regulate, restore
When you are constantly:
solving problems
meeting deadlines
caring for others
making decisions
Your system leans toward sympathetic activation. Even if you “handle it well.” Over time, that becomes your baseline frequency.
💛Joy Activates Regulation
When you laugh. When you play. When you feel genuine lightness.
Your parasympathetic nervous system activates - especially the vagus nerve, which helps regulate:
Heart rate
Breath rhythm
Digestion
Emotional response
Inflammation
This creates coherence - a synchronised rhythm between heart, brain and breath.
In simple terms…your body feels safe. And when your body feels safe, it performs better.
🔬The Cortisol Shift
Chronic stress keeps cortisol elevated.
Elevated cortisol over time contributes to:
Belly weight storage
Poor sleep
Brain fog
Increased inflammation
Emotional reactivity
Joy lowers cortisol. It increases dopamine and serotonin. It improves immune response.
And here’s the important part: You cannot force your nervous system into calm.
But you can invite it through safety signals. Joy is a safety signal.
🎈Why This Matters for Midlife
For many men and women in their 40s, 50s and 60s, life becomes responsibility-heavy.
Careers peak. Parents age. Children still need guidance.
You become the pillar. But pillars aren’t meant to run on stress chemistry 24/7.
Without regulation, high-functioning becomes high-friction.
Joy softens the friction. It restores flow.
🔋Think Frequency, Not Force
If you try to push yourself into motivation when your system is dysregulated, you create more internal resistance.
But when you elevate your emotional frequency - even slightly - everything shifts.
Better decisions. Clearer thinking. Kinder communication. Stronger intuition.
This is why I talk about frequency so much. Not as something mystical. But as something measurable inside your nervous system.
✨Frequency Friday Reflection
Instead of asking: “What do I need to achieve today?”
Ask: “What would gently regulate my system right now?”
It might be:
A 10-minute walk in nature
Music you loved in your 20s
A conversation that makes you laugh
Sitting quietly without your phone
Or my all time go -to - Playing 432 Hz - so gentle and calming for your body.
Small shifts create nervous system safety. Safety creates coherence. Coherence creates sustainable energy.
Just Choose Life. Choose consciously. Live aligned.
And remember: Regulation isn’t weakness. Joy isn’t indulgent.
They are biological upgrades.
